    Lovely Brunch

Started at Essex.. walked in and wanted to scream, so loud, like being inside a club. Drifted over to Schiller's... It was breezy, and quiet and lovely. As for the food.. my expectations weren't so high, but it was some of the best french toast I have ever had. Just perfect, slight crunch outside, warm and gooey within, delightful complicated sweetness. Perfect. Our server was super attentive without pestering and over all it was just lovely and perfect. Drinks do run you a little but of money-the only downside to the whole experience.

    not good

I ate at Schiller's yesterday and it was just not good. My duck confit was cold, dry and had so much cinnamon in it that you could not taste anything else. The fries were soggy and the lettuce was seriously wilted. I live in the area and it was my first and last time to this place. AVOID IT! It's a bridge and tunnel tourist trap!

    Consistently great.

After another great meal at Schiller's, I wanted to write after seeing some poor reviews. I've eaten here frequently over the past three years and consider myself a true "foodie". I suspect the reviews reflect the interesting trait of NYers that tend to hate the popular restaurants and laud the underdogs which are sometimes less deserving of a good review. In short, Schiller's is damn good eatin'! Stick with the typical bistro food (steak frites, chicken, the bacon mac which has that fabulous greyere bite.) Stay away from the nachos or cheesesteak - this is a bistro after all. You won't be disappointed. Cocktails are fantastic and reasonably priced. The decor is fabulous- you feel like you are in Marseille! Tables are tiny and chairs not so comfy, but that is typical of a French bistro. If you are looking for a romantic evening, it's probably not the place. It can get pretty raucous in there, but the crowd is some good eye-candy so just sit back and enjoy the view!

    Disappointed

We had a reservation for 9:00PM and didn't get seated until 10:30. We were a large party but they never told us they wouldn't be able to accommodate us -- they took our reservation, took our credit card to hold it, and when we got there it was "5 more minutes, 5 more minutes" for an hour an a half. The food used to be OK but the burger was charred on the outside and raw on the inside, and the pumpkin salad was tasteless. The steaks were tiny and tough, and the cocktails, which used to be amazing, were small and poorly mixed. The space was cramped and crowded with loud, tacky, annoying people. One of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had in 20 years of living and eating out in New York.

Way Too Noisy & Food's not Fabulous!

I was on a date here one weeknight and it was over-packed and extremely loud. Ordered food, not appetizing. Is this place a diner or something. Will not return.

great decor and food, but very noisy

I went to Schiller's on a thursday night, and at 9PM it was packed to the gills. Fortunately we were seated quickly and the waitstaff were quite attentive of our party of 6. The decor is incredible, maintaining constancy all the way to the bathroomsit looks like a 1940s british pubwhite tiles and funky lighted signs. The food is very good, and the prices are fair. Unfortunately, all of the hard surfaces make for a noisy environment, so if you want to have an intimate conversation with your neighbour, you'll either have to shout or try another spot.

    Eat It and Beat It

Cool digs and good food, but as soon as I set my fork down the wait staff made it quite clear it was time to pay and get out. Not a place to properly enjoy dinner.
