    Amazing!

We LOVED this place. The service was so awesome and the food, oh the FOOD was soooo delicious. They have so many things to choose from, even with the prefixed menu. Get the egg, spinach and truffle ravoli app-it was one of the tastiest things I've ever had in my mouth! The chief sends out tastings of other dishes too-it was well worth the money and the trip downtown. We will definitely be back...

    Not Really ITALIAN

This restaurant does NOT serve Italian food - so don't be mislead by the name. Every dish seems to have beets in it. I had two choices from the daily specials. One was an appetizer - a napoleon of mushrooms beets and onions (this was very good), main couse was duck "confit" . The meat was tender and cooked to my specification, but the vegetables which accompanied the duck were a mix of beets squash in a watery sauce (which did not compliment the duck in any way). Had gelato for dessert which was very good. Nice atmosphere with candles and dim lighting but (VERY NOISY) - had a headache by the time I left - I have been in cafeterias with less noise! Service was wonderful all through the meal. I would overall call this a nice restaurant but once was enough here for me. Too many other good choices in NYC.

    Outstanding Experience

On a friend's recommendation my wife and I came to Scalini for our anniversary. When the manager heard it was a special occasion he escorted us to a beautiful and quiet table in the corner of the room. What followed was one of the most enjoyable and delicious dinners we've ever had. As always, it starts with the wine. We explained to the manager what type of wine we enjoyed along with the price range and he chose an excellent wine (Il Bollo) which enhanced our entire meal. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable, and not overbearing. The food was exquisite. I had the seared fois gras and my wife had the mushroom risotto. You know what it's like to each your dish slowly so it won't be finished too quickly? That was us. Our main dishes were the veal rib chop and the pan chicken breast. Every bite was savored. Dessert was also terrific; apple tart with pistachio gelato and hazelnut gelato with caramel wafers. The dessert plates came with "Happy Anniversary" written on them in chocolate. This is one of those meals where even though the tab is high (>$300 including wine) we just didn't care, since in the years that we have been together this was one of the best dining experiences we have ever had.

    Pretty Disappointing

The food was generally good, but there were rocks in my wife's clams. We got the old, "in six years of working here, I have never seen that happen." Well, I have been there once, and there were rocks in three of my wife's 5 clams, so I did not find that comment particularly helpful or comforting. We asked to speak to the manager, and they never sent him over. No compensation was offered, except for a free after dinner drink, which we declined since we still had half a bottle of our overpriced wine remaining. The wine salesman (he actually told us he would be a good used car salesman) was extremely pushy and kept talking to us and hovering over our table (literally leaning on our table and watching us eat), even though it was obvious (because we told him and because we selected a table in a corner at least five tables away from the nearest diner) that we were there for an evening alone. In addition, they had the worst Italian music playing fairly loudly, which totally ruined the ambiance (it is otherwise a beautiful room). For $300 for two, poor performance.

    Simply wonderful

Took my husband to dinner for our Anniversary last night. We had a wonderful dinner, great table, and the ambience was perfect. He rarely likes to go out and eat, but could not stop complementing my choice of restaurant. Candle lighting at the table made the night a little more romantic, just wish there had been some flowers at the table (ladies like that stuff you know lol). Service was attentive and came in at all the right times. The Maitr'd came to check on our table a few times, and wished us a Happy Anniversary. Overall our experience was wonderful and we look forward to our next dining experience at Scalinni Fedeli.

    Disappointment for birthday

I went to Scalini Fedeli on 3/15/08 for my boyfriend's birthday. I called up to make a reservation 1 month prior and told the person who answered the telephone that it was his birthday. When someone called to confirm the reservation last week I once again mentioned I was going for his birthday and the person even had his name saved in the computer from when I made the initial reservation. When we went on Sat night everything was perfect atmosphere, service and especially food. I was extremely disappointed however when dessert came and there was no candle or any recognition of his birthday. I spoke with the manager upon leaving and he said he didn't know what had happened. He had a note in his computer and said something should have been done. All in all everything was great, however, a wonderful night could have been made a little more special.
