My wife and I had a romantic dinner at Scalinatella, on the recommendation of the Peninsula hotel. They actually told us that it is the best Italian in the upper east side and I have to agree. We had a wonderful time and the food was outstanding. One recommendation that I would have for visitors, just listen to the waiter recommendations. The menu is difficult to take in (very extensive with lots of specials). We ended up listening to the waiter's recommendations and did not regret it. I would recommend giving this place a try!

Good Food + OverPriced + Non Romantic = Scalinatella...To start, theres more specials than dishes on the menu so if you have a bad memory this place is not for you...the captain read off a never ending list of specials and then gave us attitude when we asked him to repeat them again...it seemed as if we were pressured from the very beginning whether choosing a wine, water or special which made us a little uncomfortable. To add, all the specials are overpriced and the prices aren't even listed until the restaurant slaps a fatty bill on your table. I brought my girlfriend here for a special, romantic dinner and was disappointed in every way. This place was not what I expected at all and certainly was not a romantic restaurant.

appitizers aren't good and pollos aren't good either. They are good, but not compare to the price. The price is way more expensive that what it should be. However, the pastas are great! the best pastas in the town you can get.

Italian-American rather than Italian food - big portions of greasy, fatty food, overcooked pasta, everything drenched in oil. Prices out-of control - over $120 per person for a three course meal with one glass of wine. Food was fresh but that was the only positive.

I went to Scalinatella for a "make up Valentine's Day" meal with my husband. I heard the food was great so I wanted to try it. It completely exceeded my expectations. The menu was huge, as were the specials. But.... I really wanted sea bass livernese and they made it for me. No questions asked. They will make you anything that you want! The service was incredible. The waiters were extremely attentive and didn't mind repeating their many specials more than once. I've been back again and both times I've had delicious fish (for starter and for main) and the chocolate brownie with ice cream is decadent. The bill is steep but worth it!!!

This place is incredible! From the moment you walk down the stairs you know you are in another world. Its dimmed lighting makes the atmosphere ever so romantic and cozy. The bartender was wonderfully attentive and makes a great French martini I might add. The wait stafff was attentive and the food made me want to propose to the chef! My boyfriend and enjoyed ourselves so much we didnt want to leave. Without a doubt, we will make many return visits in the near future. Thanks Marcos!

Having been my 2nd time here within a few months, I am so glad it is just amazing. A great atmosphere with very different mixes of tables from friends, corporate or dates. We had the tuna tartar, stone crabs, and the mushroom with crab for appetizers. Main course was the Branzino and the Dover Sole. We also had sauteed vegetables on the side. A wonderful bottle of wine added perfection to the evening.
