Without exception, Scaletta is among the best Italian restaurant's in NYC. Consistent and excellent quality, strong service and a welcoming owner make this one of the finest restaurants in the city. It can be pricey, however, there are never any disappointments upon leaving Scaletta. That can't be said about too many other places.

Scaletta offers a very pleasant atmosphere, a nice location (near the American Museum of Natural History), and good food for the price. The real pleasure, if you are into that sort of things, is to see old fashioned Italian service, with professional waiters who have done this for years, do not aspire to be actors on or off Broadway, and know exactly what they are doing. The food isn't spectacular, but a solid find all around.

We were initially taken aback by the early 90's decor and the seasoned appearnce of the clientelle, but the owner greeted us warmly and beckoned us in for what turned out to be a classic NYC dining experience. Service was crisp and sincerely hospitable. Requests were executed enthusiastically. Wine was perfect, and moderately priced. Produce was crisp and aromatic. Fish was fresh and flavorful. Sauces were delicate and perfectly complimentary . The spaghetti bolonegese was the mark of distinction. Scaletta is a cozy welcoming neighbor hood nook for those who are looking for fresh well prepared food, and who want to hang close to the UWS.

I have eaten at Scaletta many times and always enjoy the food and service. Last Saturday night, I hosted a private party there and it could not have been better. Omer and Fred, as always, were attentive, the staff was perfect, the food delicious. I can't recommend Scaletta too highly.

My family and I have eaten here many times. We have never been disappointed. The food is consistently excellent and the service is impeccable. I never hesitate to recommend it as a wonderful dining option on the Upper West Side. Also, their celebration cakes are fabulous.

We were very disappointed, the food was just ok, the service was rushed, and the atmosphere was like the basement of the holiday inn. We won't we going back.
