Excellent and unpretentious
We walked past this restaurant many times without noticing it but were pleasantly surprised when we finally went in. The food is original, elegant and delicious. The service professional and pleasant without any of the usual waiterly "schtick." The stuffed cabbage was much lighter and more sophisticated than usual, as was the lentil soup. These were original takes on dishes which are often quite ordinary. The lamb shish-kebab was excellent while the shepherd salad combined simple ingredients artfully into something greater than the sum of its parts. The small dishes in the mezze platter were outstanding and the bread served is way above average. In a neighborhood with hundreds if not thousands of restaurants it's still rare to find any that distinguish themselves in any way. Savann does. My only complaint is that the menu is a bit small.

Happy Thanksgiving
The two of us had a very positive dining experience here on Thanksgiving. The Thanksgiving prix fixe was very good, cleverly presented, as was my fellow diners appetizer, entree (lamb kabob) and dessert. Check it out!

Good neighborhood restaurant
Good food, pleasant atmosphere when not crowded, and they make effort to please customers. The lamb over risotto is a very good choice. Only one complaint - they took one of their most flavorful dishes (one of our favorites) off the menu a while back, so we do not go very often anymore.

Heat
Food is excellent. Beware during the summer the doors are open for outdoor dining but no A/C inside.

unplesant
decided to have diner in upper west side, and we ended up at savann. we waited for 15 minutes to get someone to give us the menus, and it wasn't even busy. the food was delicious. but very poor service, manager very rude! and she it was almost 10 pm and they wanted to kick us out.

Unpleasant Experience
What a dissapointing night. The calamari was overcooked and the crabcake unedible. The service was very poorc, we had to ask for water four times before a waiter came to fill us up. Our two appetizers took over an hour and were not good. Even the baklava which was "on the house" was clearly from a box and not homemade.

Just what we wanted
Came to town for weekend. Looked up French restaurants on upper west side. Picked Savann and was very pleased. Good service, appropriately attentive. Owner came by to check on our happiness. Caused some extra sauce to appear. Kitchen's attention to food details was very good. Risotto under the lamb was separate and succulent. Celery root puree under crusted oysters was wonderful base. Calamari was just right consistency. Duck was best I'd had in a long time. Prices spot on. Wine reasonably marked up and served in nice size goblets. T'was a nasty rainy night and the dinner crowd was thin. Hope the owner stays in business as it's a solid neighborhood spot.
