Fabulous vegetarian indian
Although the decor of Saravanaas seems on first glance perhaps to be trying too hard, the food at the restaurant couldn't be better.

Best South Indian Food
We went to this restaurant on 11/12/05 which was highly recommended by my friends.True to say that the food served here par excellence as their madras outlets.Thali served here,I would say the best in manhaattan $14.95. Service wonderful and the servers are very attentative. Keep your service maintained & good luck.

Authentic Madras Food
Excellent food, the same quality you get in Saravaas in Tamilnadu!

Unpleasant dining experience
The first time I ordered masala dosa, the server brought a plain dosa and suggested I start eating. He said the potato filling were being prepared - he'd bring it when it was ready (saw the same thing happen to another couple). People familiar with this cuisine will understand how absurd the suggestion is. It's like ordering spaghetti w/meatballs only to be told to eat spaghetti while the meatballs are being prepared. Not wanting to write this place off, I went back. This time our entrees arrived at a gap of 8-10 minutes which when you're hungry is a long time. The last time, it was a repeat performance of the first time. I left thinking the poor customer service and the dazed servers are too much of an annoyance to ever go back.

Very authentic South Indian Food
I enjoyed eating at Saravanaas . You really get the taste of South Indian food here . It is a purely Veg restaurant and good for the health too. All the cooks are very expirienced and I feel like I am in Madras in India when eating here . I really like the place much . Wishing the Saravanaas group a grand success

Nice food, potentially slow service
I love South Indian Vegetarian food. We went for Sunday brunch. I have eaten many times at their Mountain View CA location, and comparing the two, the NY branch fell short on the food quality and menu selections. CA place gives 3 chutneys with all dosas plus sambar or rasam, but this NY branch just does sambar and 1 chutney. Do try their Madras coffee- its very nice. Our order took a very long time to arrive and I had to remind them 5 times to bring the coffee, but they were quite nice about it and said that they were running short on staff and apologized.
