Highly priced and yet Bad bad bad service
They have the grumpiest waiters serving you. The service is bad. And the waiters unhelpful. Seems like they're doing you a favor by serving you. And it's over priced priced for food like this. I was extremely disappointed that even after paying higher than any other restuarant with the same food, their customer service is so poor. They don't know how to treat their customers.

Bad service
I have been going to this place for the last 4 years and in the most recent visits the service has been going south. In this visit, it was really bad. We had to wait for a menu for 15 min and the after the order it took more than half hour for the food. The food was not good as well. My onion Uthappam was not fully prepared. Overall a bad experience and I would stop going to this place.

Great. Authentic. Period.
Having eaten phenomenal homecooked Indian food and phenomenal restaurant cooked food in India, I'm in a good position to state: this place is as good as it gets in Manhattan. You don't go there for the decor, which is functional, but for the food, which rocks. Now that they've expanded into the space next door (a former restaurant that couldn't compete), there's plenty of space for everyone. A lifelong Manhattan food connoisseur, Saravanas is one of my top 10 NY restaurants.

Has the ownership changed?
Visited the restaurant yesterday after a year. We ordered two dishes that were mediocre at best. The chappathi was undercooked and the dosa certainly not thin was cooked on one side and raw on the other. The food was not hot. The food was far better when it first opened.

Best Indian food I've ever had
It was a great sign that there was a line out the door of Indians -- says a lot about the authenticity of the food. Atmosphere is simple but nice, service was OK, but the food was absolutely incredible, and the price was reasonable. I had never really had Southern Indian food, so I was thrilled to try something new. Everything was delicious: flavorful and filling without being too heavy. The price is totally reasonable as well. I plan to go back regularly and bring friends and family visiting me in the city. Overall, a new and excellent culinary experience.

Much better quality and value than Hampton
Great selection of options, food comes quickly, and it is very tasty. The Hampton Chutney Co is a poor quality rip off compared to this place.
