    Really good

Just want to address Poppy's post about rather seeing locals in the restaurant. I have been to Saraghina many times now and each time I'd say the clientele is split about 50/50 racially--assuming that race is what everyone is talking about when they refer to locals. Yes it is weird that there is a somewhat fancy Manhattani restaurant in the hood...but you went there and you probably live around there and that's weird too except now you have somewhere good to eat. Food is great. Garden is great. Prices are very fair for the quality. Service is hit and miss but the staff are cute awkward Italians so you forgive them. This place has already transformed my life in Bed-stuy.

    Absolutely great!

Totally impressed with this place. Took my wife here for a birthday dinner with four friends and we ate like kings for 30 bucks a pop. The pizzas are delicious and simple, and the pasta/vegetable side items were fresh and wonderful. They have a really nice back garden as well. Highly recommended for anybody east of Flatbush; hop on the C or the bus.

    Welcome addition to the neighborhood

Just wanted to respond to the person complaining about this place being "too expensive for the corner is occupies". Pies run between $10-$15, and their entrees tend to be reasonably priced as well. I'm not sure why the reviewer feels that corner should not have a business of this sort.

    Pizza Pizza

The pizza is definitely good pizza. Baked in a real fire brick oven, you have 6 different choices of Napolitan style pizza which is a little large for just one and a little too small for two. I had the Capocollo (spicy pork back, yum-yum) and the Ortolana (zucchini and eggplant, mmmm). They have daily specials which consist mostly of a big variety of appetizers and a few main course dishes like pasta and fish of the day. They do not have any wine or beer so one must bring their own alcohol. (I overheard the wine store Olivino pairs wine to Saraghina's menu.) The staff is very friendly and attentive but not annoying. The interior of the restaurant reminds one of a country side rather than a city with 2 rooms and a garden. If one is a local and gets to know their neighbors they will find out Saraghina is run by two Italians: one who lives around the corner and one who lives minutes away. Overall Saraghina is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood with prices that are affordable.

    Amazing pizza!

This place has some of the best specialty pizza in the city. The crust is a little thicker and it's definitely a wet pizza, in the style of Grimaldi's. The toppings are really high quality and the service was friendly.

Great Service, Good food, but I'd rather see locals in the neighborhood...

As soon as you walk into Saraghina, you should be floored by the atmosphere the owners have created. From the beautiful butcher block tables to the brick oven behind the bar, its as cozy as can be. Then, you're sure to notice the warm and friendly faces of the servers and the owners (one of whom is making the pizzas, the other backing up the servers). Also, it is byob at the moment, so grab a six-pack across the street before heading inside! The food is good, and generous (a great and fresh house salad), but the pizza crust is a little chewy for my taste. It requires a knife and fork, as opposed to being a strictly hands-on affair. That being said, Saraghina is much too expensive for the corner it occupies in Bed-Stuy (Lewis Ave. and Halsey St.). Aside from the desire to open up a great restaurant in an "up-and-coming" neighborhood, how did the owners pick that corner? In a neighborhood where the cafes and restaurants are owned and operated by locals, Saraghina seems a little out of place. Alas, the interior is beautiful and the owners so nice, i probably will be back, especially once they get the patio open (!).
