I stopped by Sapphire one night when i just had to get some sustenance before going to bed. I ordered the samosas and they were fantastic! The accompanying sauces were practically drinkable and the pastry was perfectly golden and the filling well spiced. I was so impressed i came back the next day for the buffet which cost me $15 after tax and tip. It was amazing! The lamb biryani was full of huge chunks of meat and the sauteed okra was the most amazing vegetable dish i've ever tried. There was such an impressive aray of choices and the wait staff was wonderful. I really felt like I had stumbled on a gem (pardon the pun). This was just two months ago and when i move tot own in the fall i'm hitting Sapphire as soon as I land. PLUS it's right by Lincoln Center and considering the location i think it's very fairly priced.

Expected me to have a "big" order for them to deliver to west 72nd st!! Most places do 15 block radius. With the high prices they are charging for food surely they can afford better delivery service.

Last month I was there with friends and the waiter spilled on sauce all over my friend's skirt. The manager did not want to pay for the dry cleaning and never answers her calls. They promised to clean the item and she is still waiting for her skirt. Very short sighted on their end. I would never eat there nor suggest the place to anyone. Thrifty, rude and unprofessional.

Service is ok, prices are higher than the average - but the menu, flavors and ambiance make up for it all. If you want your standard palak paneer, go to another neighborhood joint. Otherwise, take friends and family to Sapphire and enjoy trying new things.

We have seen Sapphire spiral downhill for the past 6 months. Each night has been a different level of spices, sometimes the chicken is not fully cooked and others overdone. For $17 for a biryani, we can get much better at Balucchis or the many other indian restaurants in town. If you need something badly and can't go anywhere else, this will suffice but for the price, can get much better elsewhere.

I think people knock this place too often. It has improved and the delivery is prompt. Try something OTHER than your usual dish...the kitchen is pretty good. Not the best in the City, but it's gotta be in the top 20.

I've been to sapphire on several occassions &varying times of day. The first time I went w/ a friend at dinner time we paid $100 for 2 btwn appetizer, main course & dessert. Since, I always go at lunch time when they offer an all you can eat buffet for under $15.00 at lunch time. (I think it was $12.00). I recommend the all you can eat buffet if you are watching your wallet, are new to Indian food or just want to sample the food. It's a great way to taste a variety of dishes to see what you like/dont like for a bargain price. From my experience, they do change the variety in the buffet & sometimes, depending on the chef of the day, the same dish can be hotter or milder. As any chef knows, no dish ever comes out identical every single time. Every restaurant has its good/ bad days. If there is more than 1 chef & u didnt like it the 1st time, you may want to try a diff. day to see if there is a difference. They also have lunch boxes to go if you dont want to eat in the restaurant for a good price as well. I've gone there w/ my best friends, my coworkers & boss, & my boyfriend and they have all loved it. It's a great ambiance for a romantic date, a meal w/ colleagues or just hanging out w/ friends. If you have never eaten Indian food & want to give it a try I say Sapphire is a good bet. Since I am new to Indian food I cannot eat at some that are extremely spicy. At Sapphire I am able to choose from quite a few dishes that I can actually enjoy, although they still do have some very spicy options that I stay away from. I find the waiters to be friendly and have never had a problem with service. After going there a couple of times the waiters recognized me & attended to me well. (Maybe it was b/c I kept bringing them different customers, but regardless I have never had a problem with them).Even the 1st time I went, the waiter helped me to choose something not too spicy & recommended a sampler tray for appetizer. Sapphire is a great.
