Definately Pass, Do not Come here
I've been here a couple of times over the years, thinking it would get better - I will prob stop coming to this waste of space. Food is ok, but not any better than the other "high end" Indian restaurants, and Sapphire should not be considered a part of that league. Just because you are located in Columbus Circle does not mean you are automatically high end. Service is by far the WORST ever, street side vendors in India are more attentive and client friendly. Would it hurt the waiters to smile and show a bit of emotion or interest in their patrons? I felt like I was in Communist Russia circa 1970. The place has 0 vibe, the food is medicore (not terrible) but the absolutely AWFUL service is a total deal breaker. Although they are not rude, I do not want to go a place where I feel the waiters are doing me favors by serving me. A smille and friendly attitude by engaging the customers goes a long way. You are better off going to the multide of other GOOD Indian spots, definately pass this place, Im surprised they are still in business. I wish there was a better way to get through to the management of how awful their service is.

Nothing great to write home about...
Baby Lamb Chops are great. Ordered Chicken Patiala and Lamb Xacutti with Vegetable Biriyani and Naan... ended with Kulfi. Liked the flavor of Chicken Patiala... on the sweeter creamier taste. Lamb was just ok... tasted like any other lamb curry in any other Indian restaurant. Vegetable Biriyani was very average... had better ones in Curry Hill. Kulfi was yummy. Good selection of wine... I had the shiraz and my husband liked the merlot. I would give it another try may be... and just order the Tandoor grill dishes. We spent about $120... the portion sizes were good, but had better food at 3/4 the cost.

My tastebuds don't lie
I stopped by Sapphire one night when i just had to get some sustenance before going to bed. I ordered the samosas and they were fantastic! The accompanying sauces were practically drinkable and the pastry was perfectly golden and the filling well spiced. I was so impressed i came back the next day for the buffet which cost me $15 after tax and tip. It was amazing! The lamb biryani was full of huge chunks of meat and the sauteed okra was the most amazing vegetable dish i've ever tried. There was such an impressive aray of choices and the wait staff was wonderful. I really felt like I had stumbled on a gem (pardon the pun). This was just two months ago and when i move tot own in the fall i'm hitting Sapphire as soon as I land. PLUS it's right by Lincoln Center and considering the location i think it's very fairly priced.

Couldn't even deliver 10 blocks away
Expected me to have a "big" order for them to deliver to west 72nd st!! Most places do 15 block radius. With the high prices they are charging for food surely they can afford better delivery service.

Short sighted Management
Last month I was there with friends and the waiter spilled on sauce all over my friend's skirt. The manager did not want to pay for the dry cleaning and never answers her calls. They promised to clean the item and she is still waiting for her skirt. Very short sighted on their end. I would never eat there nor suggest the place to anyone. Thrifty, rude and unprofessional.

Upscale Indian with Interesting Menu
Service is ok, prices are higher than the average - but the menu, flavors and ambiance make up for it all. If you want your standard palak paneer, go to another neighborhood joint. Otherwise, take friends and family to Sapphire and enjoy trying new things.

Good Place Gone Very Wrong
We have seen Sapphire spiral downhill for the past 6 months. Each night has been a different level of spices, sometimes the chicken is not fully cooked and others overdone. For $17 for a biryani, we can get much better at Balucchis or the many other indian restaurants in town. If you need something badly and can't go anywhere else, this will suffice but for the price, can get much better elsewhere.
