    Really?

Waited exactly 1 hour and 22 minutes to have our food delivered. After an hour of waiting I called and was told the deliveryman had just left. Twenty two minutes later he arrived having travelled the FIVE BLOCKS to my apartment. As for the food, I shake my head. The pizza was very good, but was slightly bigger than a dinner plate, not your traditional pizza that serves more than one person. This would've been fine had they mentioned this on the menu. As for me shaking my head...the pizza wasn't cut! Let me repeat that. The pizza wasn't cut. Enough said.

    Prosciutto pannouzzo - yum

Hi San Matteo, I had your prosciutto pannouzzo a few times in the past and it was OUT OF THIS WORLD (ie no speaking during eating). The prosciutto was fresh and amazing. I just ordered it again and it was greasy and the meat was not as great. Still a fabulous sandwich but 4* instead of 5*. Go back to your original ways!

Felt like I was back in italia

I went there the other night because it was the closest pizzeria near my friend's apartment. Once I stepped inside, the cozy/small atmosphere and the warmth and aromas from the oven made me immediately excited for what I knew would be good authentic food. A bottle of wine was less than $30 which is a bargain in NYC terms, and all the menu items looked delicious. We ordered the prosciutto, fig, and cheese antipasto and it was amazing (and a huge platter)! The prosciutto was straight from italy, just like the ones I ate in Toscana. We also shared a pizza (diavolo), even though we were already full from the antipasti, and it was perfectly oven baked and all the ingredients tasted were deliciously fresh. The capuccino was a perfect ending to a delectable meal. We took our leisurely time and the staff was accommodating and very friendly even though the place was getting packed. San Mateo is definitely a place for you and your special friend to share a great authentic italian night.

    Not at all impressed

A boring and greasy pizza. We ordered the Diavola and Margherita with porcini mushrooms. Delivery was quick but the pizzas did not look appealing. Toppings were scarce (there were maybe 5 mushrooms on one pizza) and the tomato sauce was very bland.

    Great Calzones and Panuozzo

I ate at San Mateo for the first time today. The space is very small but the staff are attentive and friendly. The menu is very heavily focused on variations on bread and cheese, so pizza, calzones, and panuozzo - which if you don't know is like a stuffed panini. Everything we had was delicious with very high quality cheese and wonderful dough for the calzone and panuozzo. It was freezing out when we went, so sit away from the door, or else your pizza will be chilled pretty quickly by the cold air blowing on you.

    Amazing

Amazing Pizza! Homemade styled Pizza made by Italians for once, which is a rarity in NYC.
