Delish!
My husband and I recently moved around the corner from San Matteo and decided to try it. The pizza was great! We ordered: Prosciutto e Bufala and Porcini e Tartufo and we split them. It was a good amount but I think an appetizer and pizza would have been good too. Both pizzas were cooked well with the perfect amount of fresh ingredients. Also, the dough of the pizza was AMAZING. It was perfectly salted, which is unusual. Also the wine is priced very reasonably for NYC. We will def go back!

What happened?
Always ordered take out from San Matteo when it first opened. Pizza was good (not the best) but good thin crust and edible. I went back a few weeks ago after a year and the food was much worse. I ordered the pizza and 2 salads for take out. The guy told me 10 mins. I get there 10 mins later walked home 2 blocks and the pizza was cold and there was pools of liquid sitting on top. I warmed the pizza up in my oven but the liquid was still on top of the cheese and the bread was so chewy I could barely finish a slice. Considering how fast it was ready, it appears like left over from lunch and they just through it in a box. Salad was decent but the pizza was not. I ate 1 slice and threw the rest away.

Best pizza on the UES!
The pizza here is outstanding - both to eat in and for delivery. Service is always prompt and courteous. A winner!

Rude service
Came here twice and nobody ever bothered for a Hi or a Thanks. If I'll ever go back, I'll make sure to bring a bottle of water with me, as nobody would refill your glass during dinner...pizza was good, nothing to die for, but the way they treat customers in here is just ridiculous!

Hands down a go to place
There are only a handful of great places on the Upper East Side. This one is awesome. This is as Italian as you can get, everything comes from Italy. This pizza is so good it's worth the trip uptown and it's so good it's worth it to wait in line outside the restaurant for the pizza. If you're on the UES and you haven't tried it, you hate pizza and are a tool. Caveat being that you should eat at the restaurant, the pizza is so thin and delicate (like a butterfly on a midsummer's eve) that by the time you get it to your gross little walk up it's wings will have wilted. Leave your mom at home and get your self some pizza at San Matteo.

Disappointing pizza
Read the reviews. Very confusing because some people say it is great, and others say it is poor. Took a chance to order from there anyway. After tonight would have to side with those who say it is poor. I got a pizza to go - it was stone cold when I got it home. It was burned on the bottom, and had fresh spinach on it, which was not cleaned well enough, so it was gritty. Ugh! Also, it was a fairly small pizza for $14.00. Not what I would expect of a NYC pizza restaurant. I thought the pizza would be delicious. The service was good and can't really comment on the atmosphere because I got it to go.

Best pizza in town!
After reading the about the restaurant I went from Westchester NY to NYC to see for my self, I was simply curious. I eat out a lot and I thought I'd see what this place had to offer. Turns out, this small place blew my mind! the food, the servers were great! I felt like I was in a cafe in Italy all over.. I would definitely go back. this cafe makes everything fresh! I have been there 3 times in the last month and I cant wait to try something else.... Just simply great food, fresh pizza, great wine selection....
