Off night?
It was fairly dead, a lot of pick up and take out. i sat at the sushi bar. the staff was a bit awkward, but friendly enough. i had the clear broth, a dashi, it was absolutely great. the uni i ordered was not fresh, or great. nor was the mackerel. but the mackerel was at least cut and handled nicely. i finished only one piece of each though. the two rolls were encasing a quality of fish that was not fresh either. i paid over 90 bucks and ate four bites of food. bummer.

Solid choice
I have lunch here about once a week. Its an amazing deal, barely more expensive than a few slices and a coke would be. Sometimes I get their special rolls for dinner which can be pretty good. One thing reviewers should admit to is that sushi is not a food that survives take-out easily. Its always much better in the restaurant. Samurai is good quality, mid-level sushi at reasonable prices-- and the staff are all really friendly and attentive. My only complaint is that because the space is one room with lots of tile, noise reverberates, and occasionally I've had to spend my entire lunch listening to someone else's HORRIBLE conversation. Not necessarily Samurai's fault-- but please, have some respect for your fellow diners. We really don't want to hear it. Definitely in my top five spots in the N7 & Bedford immediate vicinity.

Semi frozen fish
I got delivery--sashimi came in various grades of thaw--one nearly froze my tongue, others were very chewy. Granted it was a Monday night, but I'd expect better.

The best? Dunno, but it's my fave for sure.
Is this place the "best sushi in Williamsburg"? From my experience, absolutely yes. Is it "the best sushi in Brooklyn"? Probably not, but honestly I don't care. I have never once been disappointed by Samurai. The food is fresh, the sun roll and salmon skin rolls are perfection, and the staff is very friendly. It's never crowded, which kind of worries me for their sake, but for my sake makes for a nice, calm, quiet dining experience. I don't come here to be bowled over by ambiance or decor, there are plenty of other opportunities in the neighborhood for that. I come here to eat tasty food that even I can afford, but that isn't pizza or tacos again. Not that I don't love pizza and tacos, but sometimes you just wanna eat some raw fish and feel good about yourself. Samurai always leaves me feeling pretty damn great.

Its OK
Okay, people are exaggerating. This is not the best sushi, its not Yasuda, Gari or anything that has to do with the art of food. But its CHEAP and FRESH. There is absolutely no atmosphere to speak of, and the crowd ranges from very bridge and tunnel, very few hipsters, LOTS of young NYU type kids. I just went last Sunday and was satisfied. I would definitely go back. Mediocre Sushi at cheap prices. I don't mind that. There you go guys, the TRUTH.

Best in Williamsburg
Best Sushi I've had in Williamsburg. Wonderfully fresh, delicate and well prepared Sushi rolls. If you think all Sushi is pretty much the same, try Samurai and you'll see its not so. And no, I really wasn't paid to say this.
