    Disappointing Dish

I ordered take-out and it came fast. Never again. The woman ans. the phone was not helpful and seemed harried and unpleasant, didn't help as I questioned her, never ordered from there before - was impatient. I ordered shrimp with dried chili pepper. I said very little oil. The baby shrimp were fresh not frozen and in themselves good, there were loads of chili peppers -great, but not only was it drenched in chili oil (she should have warned me considering my little oil request and I wouldn't have gotten that) and some really foul tasting (Kim Chee?) smashed thick goop/bean like "stuff" under it all. No veggies, and a really nasty taste overall. I picked out shrimp and blotted them on paper towels, but it was awful. The beef on skewers were tender, but oily for pan fried (had to blot on paper tower) and not warm to boot. 1 apptetizer 1 dish and over nineteen dollars without tip for delivery guy. Not worth it at all. How do they get away with it?

    Best Chinese outside Chinatown!

I'm a regular, the service is fast and efficient, portions are large, like the way it should be. It can be crowded at pick hours and weekends!!

    Awesome staff

I lost my cellphone and the owner of this restaurant, William, somehow managed to find me and give it back to me. He must have gone to extraordinary lengths to track me down. Restored my faith in New Yorkers! Thank you so very much.

    A bunch of great dishes!

I've been ordering from Sammy's for 10 years. The food is good and sometimes even great. Even tho not always consistent, its far better than most. I did recently notice the baby shrimp are really BABY shrimp now.. they used to be double in size.

Chances are, you won't be disappointed.

I feel like I have seen nothing in between totally glowing reviews and absolute excoriation here on the boards, so I wanted to attempt to reconcile a couple of different viewpoints. First off, Sammy's is most definitely on the Americanized side of the line when it comes to authenticity, but this is not necessarily a point in the negative column if you have the right point of view. I.e., they may not be doing the "tastes just like Shanghai" thing, but what they do instead is still excellent in its own right... if you're the kind of person who, like me, can accept "American" Chinese food (or "American" Italian food) as its own type of cuisine, then this should make sense to you. As it stands, the food is flavorful, fresh, and varied, and it comes at a good price. It's true that they suffer from an overly varied menu, and so every once in a while you'll hit on a bland or so-so dish if you are really trying to taste everything. But for the most part if you stick to the "classics" you will get a lot of bang for your buck, with the added bonus that you don't have to go all the way to Queens or Chinatown, as Sammy's is more centrally located than these other destinations. I've never had to wait for a table and they always get us in and out as fast as I need. I am definitely a regular customer, whenever I get that craving for the Chinese flava, and unless you are very picky about what you consider to be an acceptable submission under the category of Chinese food I suspect you will be too. (Lighten up, willya?)

Don't listen to the bad reviews

I'm not sure where these people are coming from - I went here the other night, and the lomein was amazing! So fresh, and YES, a little greasy, but who doesn't like a little flavor... A fun place to go with friends as well.

    Spicy Dumpling soup...

I ordered the soup to deliver. The delivery man got lost and took forever. Spicy dumpling soup was not good for my taste. I like spicy, very spicy. The soup had too much vinegar and couldn't event taste the dumplings nor the spiciness. I'll never order this dish again.
