Why this restaurant is still in business is beyond me. With all the great restaurants in Manhattan, how does it survive? It's extremely expensive, but even at half the price, it would have been a disappointment. Watery, flavorless dressing on the salads, pastas that tasted like something from a college cafeteria, and bland, flavorless everything. To be fair, the filet mignon was decent quality meat and the service was good. The only redeeming part of the experience was that when we gave an honest answer to the maitre d' when he asked how the food was, he cut the bill in half. He was very nice--I hated to hurt his feelings, but OMG!, how can this restaurant serve food that poor at those prices?! And how did we, normally savvy diners, end up at this place? We hadn't made plans and stupidly took a recommendation from a hotel staffer. Big mistake. I'm on my way to buy a Zagat's right now, like I should have done in the first place.

I dined here for lunch for resturaunt week. Like other reviewers, I found the service so-so. Not "bad" by any means, but just average. Noone came to check how the food was, no small talk, but the courses were brought promptly and without error and the server explained the nuances of each dish and wine. That said, the food and the wine parings were great. The bass was fresh & delicous, the carpaccio perfect and the tiramisu wonderful. For 24.07 (34 with the wine) can you really complain?

This is the first time I'm reviewing a restaurant. Went here for Summer Restaurant Week. First of all, they don't give you the restaurant week menu, you have to ask for it, and they seem annoyed when you do. That's once you're actually seated, which is difficult when you walk in, see no one to greet you, and have to stand around awkwardly until someone notices you. As a matter of fact, "awkward" sums up the experience nicely. The waitstaff make you feel awkward and unwanted, with the exception of the incredibly nice kitchen guys who bring your food out. This made for an unpleasant experience. Also, the bread is not good. The BREAD. How an Italian restaurant in New York City can justify serving what seems like strips of store bought white bread in its bread basket, I'll never know. Also, the "wine pairings" on the Restaurant Week menu are a lie. What it means is that for $10 you can pick a glass of wine: house red, house white, or prosescco. No attempt to pair with your food, no nothing. It felt like a bait and switch. The entrees were actually quite delicious, as was the tiramisu dessert. This doesn't change the fact, however, that nobody should eat here. It's not worth feeling awkward and unwanted, it costs too much for what you get, and all-in-all, there are much better places in this city to spend your money.

This might be the worst value in the entire city, and that's saying a lot. It seems like this place is failing to impress as a cheap, ugly impersonation of Cipriani, or worse, Bice. The food was absolutely a joke, and the prices were the most unfunny part of the punchline. How could you ever consider returning to this place for mediocre pasta at over $20 a plate... pasta is, after all, just flower eggs and water, unless you're counting the sad excuse for sauce that was on mine... may have been made with subpar tomatoes as well. I think that this place stays busy because of the vast number of older business men willing to defraud their company of another lunch bill while they scarf down bad pizza and lasagna and watch skimpily clad cocktail waitress ignore the rest of us. If you don't believe me, try going for dinner some night. The only restaurant in midtown with more tumbleweed rolling through than diners at dinner time. Seriously, try a real restaurant that serves real italian food at real prices.

I live in Murray Hill and usually travel to other neighborhoods for dinner, but decided to try something local. I can't even begin to describe how overpriced this restaurant is. The chefs pasta tasting menu was good, but very small at $28. The filet of sole special was average and I was astonished to see $55 next to the entree when the bill came. I am not an out of towner, so I know what to expect in NYC. The prices are approaching Il Mulino but the food, atmosphere and service don't compare. I strongly recommend walking to 3rd or 2nd ave to find quality Italian in Murray Hill

this used to be an old favorite of mine - wonderful food, great location, I've been there on dates, client lunches and dinners, meals with friends - but a number of years back it was priced below the stratosphere and when I looked at the current prices, I couldn't believe my eyes! Unfortunately this place has outpriced itself - if the food and service haven't changed, it's great but did the rent go through the roof?

I went to Salute about 6 months ago, the atmosphere was very nice, the service was great, and the food was excellent! I got the seabass and my uncle got the steak. It was probably the best steak I have ever had, and I have been to some of the best steak houses in the United States. The seabass was also wonderful. I cant wait to go back to NYC so I can go back.
