Give me a Break- Pure Arrogance

This place has to be kidding. When I called to make a reservation, I was reminded that I would be limited to spending only 1 hour and 30 minutes at my table after which time I would be expected and/or asked to get up and leave because the restaurant has a policy of "turning the table over" in that amount of time - in other words, seating the next customer. When I asked what would occur if we were not done eating, (as in if the food was still being served which the customer can not control, and/or was still on the table being eaten), I was told that we would be expected to get up and leave and that it was a strict no exceptions policy. I responded that the restaurant had lost my business and hung up the phone - I have never before encountered such arrogance. Give me a break!

    Fantastic

The food here is absolutely outstanding as was the attentive service - yes, it is costly, because the "tapas" portions are very small, (many are only big enough for one person - especially the small servings of cheese), but the reason that the total bill is high is that everything is so good the temptation is to order everything on the menu - that translates to a minimum of $50 per person for the food alone - and it was worth every single cent; it was lick the plate good.

    subpar service

I never write reviews but this requires it. On a slow night after spending a lot of money on wine, cheeses and meats, they had the nerve to tell us we had to leave to clear the table when no one was waiting to get in! I was appalled. The place is always crowded and I wanted to try it. But let's face it you can get the same meat and cheese plates anywhere on the UWS for the same or less money and not be treated like an inconvenience. I suppose they are doing well and don't care but in a recession and on a quiet night you'd think they'd try harder. I live in the neighborhood eat out all the time and would never return. And I will discourage everyone from going. If you want that type of food go to any of the many other options and you won't feel like you are being thrown to the curb within 15 minutes of paying your bill.

    Good food but overpriced

Good food, good atmosphere, good service, but ungodly expensive. As an UWSer, I'd keep this place in mind for a special occasion like a big date or a birthday, but I won't to add it to my usual restaraunt rotation.

    Perfect

If you're looking for high quality, authentic, delicious Italian food, eat here. Lunch is a good time to try. Impeccable service. We loved everything we tried: lamb, zuppa di farro, best prosciutto we ever had, best risotto ever from a restaurant, beet salad. Delicious wine. A fantastic meal every time. It brings me back to Italy every time I set foot in the place. Worth every penny.

    Where's the Salami?

My experience in my first visit to Salumeria Rosi was mixed, to say the least. The atmosphere is really pretty amusing, what with the wiggly mirrors, the weird (but kinda wonderful) plaster collages on the walls and ceilings, etc. At our lunch there, the service was wonderful: our waitress was cheerful, knowledgeable, and very helpful. The only problem was the food. While nothing is bad, nothing is a knock-out, and the portions are really chintzy. We ordered a small cheese plate and a small salumeria plate: what we got were a few dabs and tiny slices of cheese, then very thinly sliced mortadella, a few slices of salami, two slices of proscuitto, and a few thin slices more of their version of porchetta (don't bother with the last...it has nothing to do with the dish you were dreaming of!). That, an a small serving of a "special" Tallegio and truffle crostini, with three glasses of wine, added up to $100. No value.

by far the best Italian Restaurant on UWS

I have been to Italy numerous times, and this is the the best Italian food outside of Italy. The meat is absolutely to die for, as well as their cheese. 1 big platter can feed a group of 6. I know some people think the food is a bit expensive (and it is) but it definitely worth it. I happen to know the owner, and I know he only uses the best ingredients. He has included some of his best dishes, such as the ribs and salad w/ scrambled eggs. This place is amazing and should be on the list of every meat and Italian food lover on the UWS.
