Half and half
The appetizers and entrees were very tasty, the service quite good, and the decor is attractive. However, because of that trend now of piling foods on top of one another, we had to be bothered scraping the mashed potatoes off of our fish. The dining room is very noisy so our conversation was strained, and two single toilet rest rooms, shared with the bar crowd, made for a very long and unpleasant wait following the dinner. We will not return here.

Came hungry.....Left hungry
Went to Salmon River on a Wednesday night with a group of 6 looking for a great seafood dinner. We arrived without a reservation and were promptly seated in the largely empty dining room. We ordered a couple of apps for the table, checking with the waiter to be sure we had ordered enough. He confirmed that we had ordered enough, but when the apps arrived it was clear that we should have doubled our order. We had potstickers and fried calamari, both were quite nice. For entrees we ordered a variety of fish and one "Big Salad". First, the "Big Salad". When a restaurant actually lists "Big Salads" on their menu and charges near $20 per salad, you expect a dinner sized portion. What arrived was a big plate, with a fairly small salad on it. Much more of a starter salad then anything else, certainly not worthy of the "Big Salad" name. The salad was tasty, but nowhere close to a dinner sized portion. The entrees got mixed reviews. By far the best was a spicy cajun salmon served on chipotle mashed sweet potatoes. That dish was delicious, and more then enough food. Other dishes ranged from just ok to good, but all with smaller portions then expected in a new york city restaurant. I ordered a Shrimp Scampi. It tasted good but included only 6 shrimp (I would guess they were 18/20 size) and a scoop of mashed potatoes. I would have expected at least 12 tails of that size in a shrimp entree. Cocktails at Salmon River were served in very narrow, very tall glasses loaded with ice. This gave the impression of a good sized drink, but turned out to be about 3 sips worth of liquid. Another dissapointment. There are so many better options for upscale seafood in Manhattan, options that are no more expensive but serve better food with more reasonable portions.

Great Food, Very good Service
What a great place! We went during a lunch time, and told our waitress that we were in a hurry. They got us food very fast. Food was great, and my espress was great too. We'll come back very soon.

Very nice restaurant
Pan fried salmon is unbelievable, ambiance of the place is very nice, quiet enough to have a conversation. bread could be better and could have a wider variety of appetizers, but the dinners were outstanding. nice spot for a date. can get a bottle of wine two dinners and an appetizer for $100 or so after tip. very good food

Alcohol expensive?
For the girl that thought her $8 cran and vodka was too expensive...do you realize that this is NYC? $8 is like a happy hour special!

Excellent food
I dined at Salmon River on Thanksgiving day 2004, the food was excellent. I was alone but I was made to feel welcome by the staff and the diners on the next table. I am visiting New York (Manhattan) again in November 2005 and will be dining again on Thanksgiving day at the Salmon River.

Feel duped about the alcohol
Yes, food is excellent, taste and presentation, but when I order a cocktail and say vodka, cranberry please, I do not expect the top shelf vodka, with the top shelf price. I never expected my drink to cost me $8!
