Oh No, St Germain, What Happened?
I recently went to St. G after a hiatus of about a year. Um...... yeah. Apparently Jerome sold the place. The decor, while before was quaint and very french is now just weird. its like a TGIFridays version of what a french bistro should look like. A bike is hanging from the ceiling, as are chairs, etc. burgundy drapes are hanging at the front windows, they removed the banquette. Aluminum electrical sockets with tons of plugs are eye-height and next to your table if you are sitting near a wall... basically, yuck. The food was an overall fail. Not inventive (i bring this up because there are banners all over the place touting the new owner as a celebrity chef), a bit bland, the menu didn't have many options, and the food was "eh". Pastries were bland; not the way they used to be. Service was pretty awesome though; they were very on top of their game. Super disappointed this came to be. Oh well, it was great while it lasted.

Not recommended
My hubby and I just got back from the most disappointing French food on a Saturday nite. No ambiance, escargot with heads left on. Everything in cream sauce. Duck Breast with loads of fat.Mussels that were raw, instead of all cooked. Cream sauce in everything. Everyone got french fries and there were loads of young folks, maybe college age. Does not compare to the better restaurants at all .Certainly not worth the money

Loved this place!
What a comfortable, friendly, warm restaurant - and the food was great. we had steak frites...perfect! we saw several other dishes that looked delicious. a great surprise in a neighborhood that wouldn't normally have a french bistro type restaurant. very, very nice.

Brunch prices are higher than menu posted here
Saint Germain's brunch entrees are excellent, but not for the high price. I don't know when the prices went up, but I see one of the reviews below mentions $13-14 brunch (and I'm assuming that's without the alcohol beverage) and it was only posted last year -- so it went up $3 in a year -- that's outrageous in this economy. Especially when you consider all you're getting for food is an entree and pastry (no bread basket).

Excellent
I love this place. The food is fantastic and reasonably priced. The service is fine. And the ambience...it's a quirly, funky blend of Bay Ridge meets France. Many times I've met interesting people there--writers, artists, and fellow travelers. It's the best restaurant in the 'hood!!

Great Place!
Solid, consistent, classic french bistro food served at reasonable prices. I have never been disappointed in the dozens of times I have been here. Best kept secret in Bay Ridge
