My husband and I just moved to New York from California and were looking for a Vietnamese restaurant. With so many great reviews for Saigon Grill, we decided to try it. We were disappointed. I'm Vietnamese and grew up with great Vietnamese food. It's not all that authentic and the food was just so-so. I suppose if we had not been spoiled by the authentic Vietnamese restaurants in Cali, we might like the place. Honestly though, if I were to have a Vietnamese food craving, it wouldn't hit the spot. I recommend the restaurant for those who just want to try Vietnamese food, but if you're Vietnamese, prepare to be disappointed.

To all the people complaining about the delivery men who want big tips - do you all realize that Saigon Grill had a class action lawsuit against them which just last week they lost - awarding 4.6 million dollars in damages to their 36 delivery workers? They were paying the delivery men two dollars a day. So please don't get annoyed if they tried to get an extra dollar here or there...If you can afford to have saigon grill deliver to your house, then you can afford to give the delivery men enough money to live. Anyways the food here is excellent, especially the ga sate and the crystal dumplings. I don't think I've ever had anything bad. The lines out the door on weekends are well-deserved and the prices are extremely reasonable.

For all Vietnamese food lovers....look no more, this is the spot. I first started going to Saigon Gril at the 86th and Broadway location, and now I go to the 91st and Amsterdam spot. Plenty of room, not a long wait, and great food. I am addicted to their food. The Grilled Pork Chops are truly out of this world! This coming from someone who hates regualr pork chops. But they way it is seasoned and grilled, is amazing. You can't go wrong with much here. Everything is pretty darn good, and the value is the best. My husband and I spend $50 for 2 apps, 2 entrees, and 2 glasses of wine, and that includes tax and tip. Can't go wrong. Enjoy!

I am glad they worked out the delivery here. I usually receive my order with 15 minutes of placing it. The food is consistent and the serivce is quick. They did however, moved the prices up recently, but it is still worth it to me.

I must agree with the majority of the positive reviews that the value and quality of food is really quite good. However, regarding the delivery gentlemen who give dirty looks when tipped over 15%, I completely agree. My husband now refuses to order from them after having this happen at least 5 times to him and I am leaning toward no more delivery since the last time I ordered and when I paid the $15 bill with a $20 bill, the guy just started to walk away. In the awkward moment, I asked for $1 back and the guy gave it to me and walked away. There was never a thank you and I got the "now signature" dirty look. Not a fan of being made to feel bad like that...

My wife and I went to the Saigon Grill for an early dinner. It was early enough that we were able to take advantage of the lunch specials. Incredible value! In fact, their appetizers were as expensive as most of the specials. We ordered the chicken sate and vegetable dumplings for apps. The sate was delicious with a nice taste from the grill, served with very good peanut sauce. The dumplings were average, nothing really special. For entrees, my wife had the tom xao gun, a mild prawn dish with plenty of tasty, fresh ginger. I had the ga xao xa ot, a spicy blend of peppers and white meat chicken. Both dishes were delicious and plentiful. The taste lingered nicely in my mouth well after we had finished our meals. The restaurant itself is rather large for this neighborhood and is tastefully appointed with a few tables overlooking Amsterdam avenue. Our water glass was never even half empty before a waiter/ waitress came by to refill it. Service was exceptional! The restrooms were clean (pristine in fact if you compare it to most Asian restrooms.) Upon leaving the restaurant, it felt like we were walking through a gauntlet of wait staff thanking us and saying "good night." Overall, Saigon Grill was an awesome experience excellent food, nice portions, friendly staff, and good value. We will definitely be back....many more times!!! PS- I'm not the best judge on the righteousness of whether ownership is fair to their delivery staff or not. There are minimum wage laws in effect in NYC for delivery people and it IS less than minimum wage. If some of the previous posts are so concerned with these issues, the answer is to make a report with NYS Dept of Labor or tip them appropriately. I always tip a minimum of $3.00 on a delivery, even if it's just a sandwich and coffee. Sometimes the tipping guidelines aren't enough because people in Manhattan have gotten lazy and order everything for delivery, even if it's a miniscule valued item. Sometimes delivery people work harder than wait staff. Tip them appropriately!

It's too bad that the owners of Saigon Grill have so stubbornly held to their unfair and niggardly policy of stiffing their delivery men as they have a fine restaurant and anyone with a sense of fairness can no longer go there. This was one of my favorite restaurants but even after losing a case with the NLRB in February they continue to refuse to do the right thing. I can't understand why they don't charge a 15% delivery fee. No one thinks twice about tipping in the restaurant and I doubt that their delivery customers would be put off by such a fee.
