First off, looking at the other reviews, I'm pretty sure a few of 'em were written by management. Just glaring sales pitches. Anyway, went here, and the food was good, but not worth the prices in my opinion. I prefer Mortons, which has a little finer feel to it, and better vegetables.

This might well be one of the most consistently good steak houses in New York. Meat is done to perfection and comes exactly the way you order it. Their salads are fresh and large. I highly recommend the chopped salad with delicious chunks of blue cheese. The wait staff are well trained and efficient. Just nothing not to like about the place.

I went here last night for a celebration of sorts. Wanting to make the occasion a truly special one, I chose Ruth's. Arriving a few moments early for reservations, we were seated promptly. The restaurant itself seems to be in the middle of the building, so all city stimulants are absent; you are taken completely away from it, which makes enjoying a meal that much easier. I had the filet mignon medium rare. My guest had the halibut with garlic and butter, a special of the day. The prices of specials are told right off the bat, there are no surprises like other places. The steak was cooked exactly the way it was ordered, and did not 'cook' more, being on a hot plate. You could taste the freshness of the fish as though it were it was a seasoning. The sides, potatoes au gratin (cheesy and creamy, the potatoes small and just firm enough), and 2+ inch thick onion rings, which were not greasy, and had a subtlely spicey breading, were perfect compliments. Drinks and cocktails were perfect. The service was immaculate; we were not checked up on often, but never got the feeling of being ignored. Even the manager came by (every table) and asked how everything was, with a short conversation as well. My advice: take your time, eat, drink, escape for a while; don't just go for a steak. It's not an everyday place, but it will make a time when you want, and can, treat yourself to something exceptional, worth the price you pay. The staff will definitely treat you that way. 5 stars in every category.

My husband and I and another couple all when here for my birthday. I was nervous only because of some of the bad reviews I had read. I was pleasently suprised and couldn't have had a better experience here. We were seated immediately (with our reservations) and our waitress was extremely nice and funny. I had the petite filet and it was perfectly cook, medium, just the way I ordered it. I had the sweet potato sides and that too was amazing. Everyone else at the table enjoyed their meal as well. We had two bottle of great wine and since it was my birthday (the our friend's) we received complimentary desserts, which were HUGE! I'm so glad we came here and couldn't have had a better experience!! Go here if you have a chance!

I have been to Ruth's Chris Steakhouses in NY (Manhattan and Long Island), San Francisco and Boston and have never had a bad experience. Service is professional and food is consistently excellent.

My boyfriend and I went to celebrate a belated Valentines Day and I have to say it was very enjoyable. The wait for our table (we had reservations) was slightly longer than expected, but the overall experience was very good. The staff was very good, the waiter was knowledgable about the wine and was very attentive and very on top with our needs. We had the fried oyster appetizer and that was delicious. We both ordered the rib eye and sides of mashed potatoes and creamed spinich, all of which was absolutely scrumptious. For dessert I had the Banana Cream Pie and that was just amazing! my bf had the chocolate sin cake and that was very tasty as well. the ambience was just right, low lights and quiet so we could enjoy our conversations. the dining rooms were not crowded at all, the tables were not one on top of the other, so we were able to enjoy conversations without feeling like the next table can eavesdrop. Overall it was just a delightful experience and everything was just right. We would very likely come back again.

Went for lunch on Restaurant Week with certain misgivings based on the reviews, but I'm happy to say we were pleasantly surprised. The seafood gumbo was very good and the salad looked nice too and you had four choices for entree. We both had the filet mignon which was perfectly cooked as requested, and was the best tasting meat we've had in a long time, tender and delicious. Only one choice for dessert, however, which was huge and very rich, so I would suggest a second, lighter choice. The service was professional and the atmosphere very pleasant so all in all it was a very satisfying experience. As for their regular prices, they are high but not much different from other steakhouses in NY.
