Fabulous fish
After seeing this place on the Food Network, we needed to know what the hype was about. It turns out...it's fish is fantastic. So fresh, so flavorful. Scottish salmon, horseradish cream cheese, whitefish salad...all great! Yes, it's super pricey. But for being a visitor to NYC, it was totally worth it. Plus, having a celebrity chef come in for a sandwich while we were having our's prepped made the trip there legit.

Simply Wonderful
It's true that the bagels are nothing special, but the whole is truly greater than the sum of its parts. The bagel with cream cheese and lox is one of the best I have ever had. The cream cheese is perfect, and the salmon IS the best I have ever had. I would agree with a previous reviewer that buying a bagel from a better place and combining it with Russ & Daughters cream cheese and salmon is the best way to go, but don't get the idea that the bagels are terrible. They aren't. They just aren't as great as the rest of the food here.

Overopriced and not that good
Beware the bagel and lox with cream cheese -- I paid top dollar for a ton of cream cheese and a tiny sliver of lox. The service was terrible (be prepared to be overlooked or passed over for a later customer). Very disappointing. Never going back.

Good but not Worth all the Hype
Given that I was living two blocks away, I felt I had to go try out the famous Russ & Daughters. Not being a fish connoisseur, I decided to stick to basics: a lox and cream cheese bagel. It was...eh. I wasn't really that impressed with either the bagel or the lox and the price was definitely painful. Maybe their bagels weren't the best foil for their lox but there are certainly places just as good and cheaper in Manhattan. I'll stick to those places instead.

One of a kind
You won't find this combination of unique offerings, quality and personal service anywhere else. When you first walk in, you're overwhelmed by the variety of enticing delicacies, then the staff is available for you to ask any questions and give you all the help you need without seeming intrusive. I have nothing but praise for Russ & Daughters go and enjoy!

Killer fish, average bagels
This place is awesome and has survived the renewel of the LES. The fish is top quality and the whitefish/smoked salmon hybrid is prob my fav thing on the menu. It's too bad their bagels are just average. I've learned now to buy my fish, or spreads here, and get my bagels elsewhere, if I'm hosting a brunch party. They claim their bagles are homemade, but they just aren't that yummy. If they fix that, they could achieve hall-of-fame breakfast status.
