Cool NYC atmosphere , skip the food

On "Girls" weekend, we sat down at the sidewalk table for a evening of drinks and appetizers. As the glasses of wine kept flowing ,the food wasn't getting better. We had burned bread which we asked to return for a fresh loaf and the waiter replied, " Uh, that's how they make them". We ordered the yellowfin tuna that was not good. However, we did like the shrimp roll sushi. The prices were high and we did not think it was worth it.

    Great Place

I was at Rue 57 for a business dinner last night and I must say it was great overall. The service was very good, food was excellent, and the atmosphere was great. I will be back on my own!

    so far...

My best friend is a frequent visitor to Rue 57 living just around the block. Having heard the rave reviews I decided to join her for brunch on a Sunday. Apparently we get earlier where I come from than the New Yorkers because she and her friends were oblivious to the time brunch starts (11:30) and the time you can order alcohol on a Sunday in NYC (12:00). That being said once the time changed the waiter finally let us look at the brunch menu. I had the butter lettuce salad which was very good but could have used a few more slices of pear. My friends had the beet salad which was to die for and I don't even eat beets. The bus boys cleared some plates while people were still eating and tried to leave the dirty silverware although the waiter rectified that situation eventually. The restaurant was nice and breezy and they didn't rush us or make us wait too long though it was very crowded we sat right down at 11:15. I took my cue from my friends and had the eggs benedict which were to die for!. Their variation with bernaise and crossaints was amazing!. The poached egg was perfectly done. Apparently next time I go to NYC I need to have dinner there. I would recommend it for the variety and local and the service was ok. Nice mimosas as well.

    fast food french

I have to say I have passed this restaurant frequently and it is always full, so I finally stopped by to see what all the fuss is. Highly underwhelmed. Service and food average while prices above average. Atmosphere is loud and highly unoriginal. I had steak au poivre and my husband had the chilean sea bass. My steak cognac sauce tasted store bought and the meat was not very tender. His fish had rice that tasted old and teh sauce was really sour. Save your money and find a real good french restuarant in NY there are so many more to choose from.

    Not for the locals

Stopped by here for brunch on my way to the park. Decided to give it a try since it looked pretty hoppin' and the menu was decent. Anyway, got seated in the main traffic area between the kitchen and the rest of the restaurant - asked to move to a less busy area, which the waitress was friendly with accomodating the request. I immediately knew that I had made a bad choice as I watched garbage bags being brought out from the kitchen through the dining area to the sidewalk (around 12 in the afternoon when the restaurant was full.) Got the eggs benedict - the eggs being poached correctly was just about the only thing right about the meal. The food was served luke-warm, almost cold. But they did deliver it pretty fast, so it leads me to believe they had these plated up already and it was sitting under a heat lamp. The sauce was basically congealed already and the croissant was burnt. Taste-wise, edible but certainly not tasty. Needless to say, I won't be going back here. This restaurant will probably be in business for a great while since it caters to unsuspecting tourists. What a waste of prime restaurant real estate.

    Don't Bother

I went for breakfast. The decor is very nice. That said, the only thing I liked was the water. Trust me. All hype, no substance.
