Good Place To Eat
My husband and I visited New York for the first time for our 30th anniversary. Ruby Foos was recommended in a brochure we picked up in the hotel so we through we would try it. It was absolutely delicious and we went back again the next day with our daughter. Although we are lite eaters and the wait staff seemed a little less than happy with our order, the food was really good. We would highly recommend this restaurant.

great!
i went with my family of seven, and we had a great experience! we were seated immediately for our reservations, and the service was very friendly: quite patient especially with a group who might cause anyone to say, "oh no. tourists." i started off with the crispy calamari: crispy indeed and was accompanied with the best dipping sauce i've had for calamari: thai peanut sauce. my shrimp and scallops dish didn't have enough shrimp and scallops, i thought, but i realized that my stomach would have been fine with less even because i was QUITE satisfied! (i tried my mother's orange chicken, and i was jealous.) and my dessert definitely sealed the dinner!! CHOCOLATE BANANA SPRING ROLLS (with caramel and chocolate dipping sauces). my goodness, i was in heaven. superb. as if that wasn't enough, our table was given a dish of chocolate-covered strawberries on the house! delectable! my review may appear one-sided, but i heard positive comments around the table. great experience!

way overrated
i thought the food here was not good. I ordered the filet mignon chow fun w/out the black bean sauce. I was not pleased with what i got. I basically got a mound of boiled chow fun w/ beef and shitake mushrooms on top. Also there was too much garlic in that dish. The hot and sour soup tasted "off" .The only thing I thought was half way decent was the shrimp and lobster spring rolls. Regardless, I will not be returning here to dine.

Restaurant Winter Week Bargain
Restaurant was decorated pretty but noisy. Thought the menu prices were a bit steep. The Winter Restaurant Week Prix Fixe meal menu was the way to go at $35. p/p. You get a choice out of 3 items for each appetizer, entree, and dessert. A 3 course meal. Not your ordinary Chinese food but the fusion type. These special items were not on the regular menu. Skip the ordinary skewers appetizer. Presentation was very good all around. Fried fish entree was fresh but a bit salty because of the black bean sauce. Green sweet and spicy chicken curry with sweet potatoes was very good. Finished the whole dish! Best food was the dessert: warm chocolate cake with pistachio ice cream and white chocolate hard shell filled with cream and sided with sweet baby tangerines.

must try Ruby Foo's at least once
This is a perfect restaurant for a large party. In fact, most tables are set-up for groups here. It's loud the food is OK the service varies based on staff (we had an excellent waitress who checked on our table several times throughout the evening). For startes, we shared chicken potstickers (big hit with everyone), calamari (pretty good), spring rolls (another crowd pleaser) and pork dumplings (less popular, as it turned out). For entrees, many of us ordered sushi rolls (lots of cooked meat/fish options) and found these to be OK but certainly not as yummy as the rolls in Japanese restaurants. My friends had pad thai (which they said was very good), General Ruby's chicken, and Seared Tuna. Desserts were good - especially the chocolate bananna peanutbutter tart. We were told that chocolate cake was served warm but ours was refrigerator-cold. Drinks, food, tax and service was less than $55/pp.

Definitely overpriced
I had Grilled Miso Glazed Salmon. It was waaaay too salty. Other stuff was edible, but not super-fresh (as I would expect for such price). Nothing special. Soup was good. Service was so-so -- I had my water glass refilled once only.

Good food, poor service
The food was alright mixing up all the asian food. The place was very loud noisy and trendy. If you are old, don't go. If you like loud places and like to have fun with some younger crowds, then go. From the appitizers to desserts we ordered what our waitress told us to order. It was a big portion. The dessert cake with mushmellows were YUMMY!
