    Just fine

I really like Ruben's. I think the empanadas are very tasty, but maybe it's worth asking the counterperson what s/he recommends. I've had some that aren't as good as others, of course. And a good value for the price, for certain.

I would not eat it again

I never thought i'd dislike something so much but I did! The place was great, clean, people were nice but the food was not good. I had lunch there with some friends and we had 3 different empanadas and they were all subpar.

    tasteless

if all you eat is fridays. sure. sugar? salt? fat? are ruben's empanadas expensive? for what they are- yes. but you're in nyc. everything is expensive. with that said- $4 for a good bite is fine by me. are they skimpy? depends on the batch but generally no- unless your some tourista pig. it's just the right kinda food for a busy new yorker like me who likes to walk and eat. and imho they are quite filling. does the staff have an attitude? when i've gone in- NEVER. anytime i read someone say the staff of a restaurant is rude; i have to question how rude the patron/writer was to elicit such a response. the guy i always seem to get is ALWAYS smiling. always peppers a sentence w/ "my friend". things to consider. if the cool guy at ruben's was rude you must've been really drunk. maybe an out of towner?

    Change that attitude

I love the spicy chicken, but the place is too small and I find that it's too pricey for one empanada. I know where I come from, empanadas are made and we usually sell them cheap. That's the point, it's a snack. Anyways, the guy behind the counter's attitude is ridiculous. You catch me here once in the blue.

    Ruben's

I know from empenadas and these are dry and tasteless. Did ANYONE with tastebuds taste these before putting them out? Also, the guy at the counter wass rude and barely grunted at us and we are a VERY open and friendly couple. We didn't even tell him they were no good! They aren't much of a deal either. I could go on, but you get the idea.

    The empanadas are okay!

Well, I come from a country where empanadas are very famous. Here in US. I havent found a good place for empanadas. But Ruben's empanada can be that one..The spicy chicken is good, but they should make more styles of empanadas and to try to make it not to dry inside..It tastes like you are eating a dry chicken. The price is okay, the place is extremely small and during summer there is no air conditioner. So..Try it! and judge for yourself...
