We loved it
Around the middle of October, my niece and I, both from the South, were in town to begin a week-end of sightseeing. We left our hotel and went to the Times Square area on a cold and windy Thursday night. We came upon Rosie O'Grady's and had a delicious late dinner of salad, Irish Stew and cheesecake. The atmosphere and wait staff were excellent and the prices were reasonable. We delighted in observing New York ambiance in Rosie's, and will definitely go back when we're in town again.

very mediocre
I went to Rosie O'grady's after a Saturday matinee Broadway musical. It was convenient walking distance for my brother who is not too nimble. The restaurant has a polished, distinguished decor of wood paneling and white cloth linens. We sat in the lounge area and had a good view of a football game. Our waiter took awhile to get to us in the nearly deserted restaurant (it was still early) but once he came to our table he was excellent from then on. We had the seafood soup which had no visible seafood in it and was a bit watery. We also had Caesar salad and the Caesar dressing was tasteless. I like mine a little peppery and lemony. It's been a long time since I had a Caesar salad in a restaurant and they did not offer to add some freshly ground pepper. We both had filet mignon, and steamed veggies and I had roasted potatoes that were burnt while my brother had mashed potatoes that were very creamy, and he appeared to enjoy. I ordered the steak medium for both of us and my brother's was perfect and mine was smaller and overcooked. The meat was obviously high quality and still tasty. The coffee was good. I thought the price was fair, but I was disappointed with the experience. With tip, I paid $130.00, and we didn't even order a bottle of wine. (I had two Smithwick's which were fresh and cold). I would not recommend this place to someone.

Never Again
First, the steak oredered medium was charred on the outside and very well done inside, the vegetable salad entree was covered in extremely (and unedibly) powerful vinegar sauce. Along with the steak came some boiled, absolutely tasteless vegies. Second, the waitress, noticing each course returning mostly uneaten, was completely uncaring, did not even ask why, and the bill presented even though the meal went 3/4 uneaten. All in all - never again.

"Bad" reviews below are unwarranted
I was a bit surprised to read all the negative reviews about one of my favorite restaurants. I live on the Upper West Side and when going to the theater Rosie O'Grady's is always at the top of our list. We went to Rosie's on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 for an after theater dinner and as always - the food was fantastic, the service outstanding, and, the price was what it was - you have to remember you're in the Theater District almost all the restaurants are overpriced. So be it. If you don't like it then find restaurants in other parts of the city that aren't as expensive. You are paying for the convenience of the location for Theater District restaurants. I highly recommend the onion soup, Shepherds Pie, and the Irish Sherry Trifle for dessert. Dinner for two with soup, entrees, bottle of wine, and, dessert plus coffee just a little over $120 with tip. If we didn't order the wine it would have been well under $100. That is about average for a good Theater District restaurant. Go ahead and try it yourself, you won't be sorry.

Awesome
I was visiting family in NYC and My cousin suggested we meet at Rosie O'Gradys. We had the best meal and service, better than any other resturant in NYC we had been to. You can't please everybody so take the previous reviews with a grain of salt. We had stayed a week and had Lunch and dinner at Rosie's at least 3 times. (Try the sheppards pie it is the very best) the place gets busy at lunch so I suggest you arrive early.

Service was horrible
We (myself, my mom and my aunt) came upon Rosie O'Grady's while looking for a place to eat lunch. We were greeted by a 'how many' when entering and the service just got better from there. I ordered the prix fix lunch which included spinach salad, filet mignon medallions, and cheesecake. The food came out fast, and was pretty good, the waiter informed us that the entree usually comes out after the appetizer. Really? do we look like we've never eaten in a restaurant before? The entrees came out and were all good, no complaints whatsoever. Until dessert came around and we couldn't get anyone over to out table. Apparently they had a shift change and out snotty waiter got changed to another section, and was replaced by another nice waiter who was still waiting on his tables in the bar, so it took us another hour to get our dessert and pay the check. My aunt was waving at our previous snotty waiter at some point to get his attention to get us out check, he was looking directly at us and made no sign of coming over. We had to flag another waitress down to get our check. So if you decide to eat here, the food was good, but eat at the bar, the bartenders seemed friendly....

Day And Night
I went to O'Grady's twice on a recent trip to NY with some girlfriends. The first night we went there we were greeted by a lovely waitress named Thalia that told us to avoid the seafood and recommended the steak which we all had, and I must say one of the best steaks I have ever had, this young woman was our waitress for the night and her service was impeccable. However the second night there we were "greeted" by the coldest waitor and rudest barman, the food was cold and the steak we had the night before seemed like it was a completely different restaurant. And to go from having a stunning waitress that was on top of everything for the whole night one night to having the rudest barman and extremely poor service, waiting over an hour the next night was very disappointing. The only way I would go back is if I knew when the polite and welcoming staff are working.
