Wow
I hadn't heard of this place until last night (a Thursday) when a girl friend called me to ask if I had plans for the night. I really had no clue what to expect from this place. There were very few people waiting out front at 11:30 PM. When we talked to the bouncer, he asked if we had a reservation and we said "no." We weren't sure how big of a problem this would be, but he let us in and we made our way through a heavy, dark curtain and into a little anterior bar area (perhaps Jade Bar?). We then went past a second set of doors to Rose Bar. It was beautiful, everything from the decor to the crowd. The music was fantastic, not the usual music you would expect at a lounge or club, but some offbeat and catchy songs. The drinks were incredibly tasty, particularly the watermelon martini, but the prices were a bit steep even by NYC standards. It got crowded by 12:30 AM, especially around the bar, but my friend and I relocated to an open area that contained a pool table and hung out there for the rest of the night. I left around 1:30 AM and it was still hopping. This place was a nice change of pace from the overcrowded, absurdly loud, generic clubs in the city. I would highly recommend it. (I didn't have any food there, but the Menupages system wouldn't let me submit this review without rating the food, so I just gave it an average rating.)
