    Not your average Mexican restaurant

I gotta hand it to Rosa Mexicano for having a great looking restaurant and making it a place to see and be seen. That being said, the food is also delicious and savory, but I was slightly miffed that even though I had a reservation, I still had to wait considerably for a table (and it was on the later side). The frozen pomegranate margarita is REALLY strong, but worth having once just for the experience. I'm not up for rushing back right away (it didn't go so well on the wallet), but it's definitely a good place to have high quality Mexican food in a hip and trendy atmosphere. It'd be nicer too if the waiters weren't so pushy.

    Yummy food, great atmosphere

My boyfriend and I went to Rosa Mexicano on Saturday night. I'd made reservations and, even though we showed up 15 minutes early, we were seated right away. Our server was very attentitive and friendly, and the atmosphere was great: I loved the open floorplan. The food was a bit on the expensive side, but it was unique and delicious. I would definitely go back!

Tasty, spicy, and a fun place to dine

I took both my friends here for dinner. I made reservations because I hate waiting. Upon arriving, the atmosphere was exuberant, fun, and colorful. Some may say it's tacky or cheesy, but it's fine with me. I'm not dining at Buckingham palace, so please readjust your expectations. We were seated promptly, despite arriving 15 minutes late. Our server was excellent and very friendly. The dining area is huge for a New York restaurant. The food was good to great, depending on how obnoxious one can be. The guacamole was great, just enough spice most of all, fresh. It was made right in front of us. My food was very tasty as well. I had the Alambre A La Mexicana, which is like a shiskebob with filet mignon, chorizo, serrano peppers, tomatoes, onions, and etc served over rice. The only complaint i can muster up from this whole experience is that the rice may have been slightly undercook for my preference and the corn tortilla was prepared well in advanced, which made the texture slightly tough and more chewy. Other than that, the food is very good and tasty. I just had to made this statement. I know there's a lot of food snobs here in New York which will complain that nothing is good enough for them. Cheers!

I think reservations are the key.

First time I came here, I had a reservation. Our meal was perfect. Seated promptly, etc. Second time I came here, friday night (ok that was our fault). We called in advance to see how long the wait was and they said an hour, that was expected and we were prepared to wait. I tried to put my name on the waitlist BUT this jerk said that I had to physically be there to be put on the waiting list. So, we went. When we got there, the receptionist (a lady) told us that phone-ins are okay. That was more than a little aggravating. All the waiting could have been avoided if not for that man. So my party camped out in the foyer in front of the restaurant, we were literally sitting on the floor. Not very pleasant. In the time that we were there, we observed numerous parties approach saying that they were late for their reservations (two parties were even an hour late) and they were given priority over everyone on the waitlist. I was under the impression that 15 mins is the max forgivable time you can come late to a reservation. But whatever. Close to two hours later, we were finally seated. The receptionist knew that we were having a bad time so they sent some complimentary appetizers which was thoughtful. A good attempt at patching things up. The meal was of course, superb. The bottom line is, if you're willing to brave the wait, the unfair and unclear reservation/waitlist policy and the noise of the atmosphere, definitely go. The food is almost worth it.

    Not recommended

Decided to try it for my birthday dinner. Having read the reviews, I was excited for the guacamole. It was the only good thing. My boyfriend and I arrived shortly before our reservation and didn't have to wait long. The place is huge and almost industrial like. I could barely hear myself think, but would overlook it for good food and service. Nope. Our waitress barely said anything to us the entire time. She didn't introduce herself. Right off the bat she asked us if we wanted a single or double guacamole. Single or double? Having studied the menu online, I was ready just to order the regular sized guacamole for two people for $14. Thankfully we didnt order the double, which would have been $28 and sized for four people. Either way, it was delicious. All the drinks were very small, I'm glad I went with a beer. My boyfriend ordered a drink that was supposed to have cinnamon sugar on the rim. Surprise, surprise, it didn't. He ordered the lamb shank (Mixiote de Borrego), which was cooked in a sack that was then opened tableside. Pretty cool presentation, and he enjoyed it. I ordered the seared tuna dish (Ensalada con AtĂșn). The waitress practically yelled at me that the dish was a salad. Do they really need to remind you of that when 'ensalada' is in the name? When it arrived, I was reminded about reviews I read that said that the meals seemed refrigerated and re-heated. The tuna was cold and had a weird texture. The salad would have been decent if it were not covered in salt. It was also the spiciest salad I have ever had in my life. At some point, my boyfriend ordered a beer that never came. We felt rushed through our meal and left before dessert. Definitely not going there again, you're much better off going to a small local place or even Dos Caminos. I expected a lot better for prices.

Good upscale Mex, a little Overpriced

Good upscale tendy dishes, amazing guacamole and how come no one mentioned this, but they have AMAZING dessert. The best was the Mexican Sundae...authentic and yummy! Yes, prices are a tad over priced, but you're paying for the atmosphere. This location is the best.

    Make a reservation or NOT

The first time I ate here we waited almost 2 and a half hours on a Friday evening. Food was great, although a little pricey for mexican food. If you are looking for a classic Mexican food menu this is not the place but they certainly do have many options with "flair". When a group of 12 of us tried to make a reservation almost 2 weeks in advance we were told it would have to be submitted through the catering department and therefore, a per person charge and a family style menu were our only option. A full contract commiting to $55 each plus 20% gratuity and 9% tax which doesn't include drinks and only gives us a choice of 3 entrees. Furthermore, if we stayed longer than expected they charge us an additional $25 per person per half hour!!! We passed. Not a great place for a gathering of just friends, maybe a corporate event....
