if you want to get dripped on!
Had my office holiday Lunch here. The service was ok TILL the roof started leaking onto one of my co-workers. We tried to move ourselves and it kept hitting her. When we asked the waiter she rolled her eyes and said to my coworker "YOU WILL SURVIVE". That is NOT OK! We were a group of 16 people and they moved the table a couple of inches but the water kept dripping! My coworker had to basically SIT IN MY LAP to get about from the drip. There was a very bad snow storm i understand, but come on you people are in the SERVICE business. Overall it was ok didnt feel rushed. Would go back for a work function.

Happy after being a little scared to go.
My boyfriend and I stopped here one night after hearing good things from friends and not so good reviews on menu pages. Here's the lowdown: 1) Had to ask for salsa. Once we got it, it was great, VERY spicy. 2 kinds, verde and a dark red. Different than regular salsa but still soooo good. 2.) Got the queso appetizer in a little skillet, also very good. I like it on regular chips but the BF liked the warm tortillas it came with. 3) We split the skirt steak tacos. Again very very yummy. There needed t be more of the actual steak but it came with rice/beans and a little corn salsa type thing and...more chips!! Yea! BF had a coke, I had water, we walked out at around $40 including a 20% tip. Pretty nice staff, love the deco, we went early (around 5pm) so we were leaving right as the annoying business happy hour crowd was getting there. I will definately go again with the BF or a big group.

total chain tourist trap
yuck! really big space that feels like a cheesy chain restaurant. food is decent, but not worth the price at all. not great by any means. skip this place!!

Glad I didn't pay for it
The food isn't bad, it is just too expensive for what you get. They do try to turn over the tables quickly, but on the other hand, you get very prompt service. My biggest complaint was that I asked if I could order the enchiladas a different way and I was told sorry, everything is already pre-made. Soup kitchens and cafeterias pre-make their food. If I am going to be $25 for two small enchiladas, I want to specify what goes inside. Very touristy, but with the weak dollar, what place isn't? I would only go back if someone else was paying.

An Honest Review
I was a little reluctant about going to Rosa Mexicano after reading the reviews. We had a pleasant time and a good meal, though I could see the origins of the comments people made: -The place (in the old America restaurant space) does have a chain restaurant quality. It's a huge space and it does have a touristy feeling. It is popular with families with kids, and large groups. It's a bit loud and doesn't have a warm atmosphere, but can be fun. -There is definitely an upsell vibe to the waitstaff, and the vague feeling that they want to turn the table as soon as possible. Food comes out fast and there is an eagerness to take your order. -Otherwise, service was good, fast and attentive. Food comes out on time and hot, tables bussed, water filled etc.... -The food was good, especially the short ribs (excellent). Liked the guacamole and the mexican sauces. The more traditional mexican items (such as the enchaladas) did not seem to be worth the price...not that special and I've had better at cheaper places. Mole not so special either. But some of the other more "fancy" entrees were more special, and could more easily justify the price ($160 including tip for three, with two entrees, 2 apps, guacamole withh 2 avocados -you get to decide how many-, 3 sides, and 3 non-alcoholic beverages, no dessert.) Overall good experience , but if you are looking for good mexican, and are not a large group, a family with kids, a tourist looking for a cool NYC space or having a party, you could do better for half the price in a more unique and interesting space.

Tourist trap
don't get all the fuss. guacamole at your table, big deal! the place is huge, impersonal, very loud, the food is mediocre at best. a "mexican food factory" for gringos looking for a bridge and tunnel scene. it's a lot of hype about nothing.

Great food but not enough of it!
The food was definitely delicious but the portions were too small. I know it's a trendy restaurant, but when I think of Mexican, I think of nice-sized portions. I had the Arrachera con Camarones and it was very good but I just was not filled. Service was spot on and the atmosphere is cool. So I would recommend going but keep this in mind.
