Warm, friendly and delicious
Just had my engagement party there last night. It was attended by 31 people. Most agreed they would definitely come back. Their pulled pork is amazing and steak is soft and tender. The butternut squash is smooth with a nice kick of savory spices. I am not a regular customer here and the service was superb!! More people came than initially planned, and the waiters totally adapted, and did not break a sweat. Service with a smile!

Rock on
Went to the Rocking Horse Cafe tonight after a friend suggested we try it out. Place isn't large but we were placed in back table that had good view of the whole restaurant and we didn't feel crowded. Told the margaritas were really good here so tried the la pina. Was good but not the best I ever had but they sure didn't skimp on the size or the alcohol content. Complimentary chips were fresh, crunchy and unlike some other places didn't have a lot of salt which I loved. Salsa served was a bit non traditional in that it was more of a thick puree blend but was still good with the chips. Asked numerous times if we wanted a refill of chips and salsa but had to turn down that temptation since we didn't want to fill up too much. For main course, my friend had the camarones con papaya. It looked good and she said it was tasty. She was also excited that they offered spelt tortillas since it seemed to be a healthier option. I had the cordero enchipotlado (chipotle braised lamb). They let me switch the side to mashed potatoes since I'm not a big fan of polenta and also ordered a side of the plantain puree since it sounded so interesting. I don't usually order lamb shank so my eyes popped out of my head at the size of it. Definitely, would have leftovers for lunch the next day and maybe even the day after. Lamb well cooked and seasoned, mashed potatoes had plenty of yummy butter. Plantain puree would have been better to me if it were a bit sweeter. Of course we couldn't leave without trying dessert because the options looked so good. My friend had the tortita de chocolate. I had the buñuelos which were fried dough with powdered sugar (reminds me of a beignet). I'm usually disappointed with desserts that I order but these buñuelos hit the spot. Warm, sweet with a bit of a crunch. They were delicious by themselves but also good with the Ibarra chocolate pot au creme which was like a chocolate mouse. Service was great here from beginning to end. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly. The manager also checked on our table during each course to make sure everything was going well. Would definitely check out the Rocking Horse again.

My favorite restaurant
Brunch, the pancakes are amazing. Lunch, value! Unbelievable soups and the best burrito in New York. $7.95. Unbelievable. Dinner, lamb is incredible, mixiote is wonderful. Margaritas? Huge, strong and delicious. My favorite is the passion fruit until Spring. Then it's watermelon Margaritas till Labor Day. The staff is like family. I love this place.

Best of Chelsea
Rocking Horse Cafe has been a neighborhood (Chelsea) gem for more than 15 years. I eat there monthly and always enjoy the amazing food and warm service. The lunch specials are a real value and Brunch is fantastic too. If you live here, you know it's great. If you don't, give it a try.
