Excellent Experience
I first took my wife here for our wedding anniversary, it was awesome. Of course the view is tremendous from the window tables, but it is pretty great from almost any seat in the place with the floor to ceiling windows. Food was wonderful. And the Bomboloni dessert was to die for. Went back a second time with friends of ours and was not disappointed. It's pricy, but I will go back for other special occasions.

Wonderful experience
Food excellent.Service great. Atmosphere fabulous. View exquisite. The manager is a terrific addition to the restaurant. He is warm, friendly & makes you feel welcome. Our server is also a great asset. We shall return.

Good but..
Very good food and drinks. Very expensive though and small portions. Duck Breast was delicious but we were given 2 small strips with a very small scoop of rice and a few small vegetables. That for about $35. Everything is extra and drinks are also very expensive. The view from the wall of windows is beautiful though. So if you are rich this is a good place for you.

Even better than expected
My wife and I went to Robert to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We made a reservation through OpenTable and requested a window seat. When we we arrived we were taken to a GREAT private table with a perfect view of Columbus Circle and Central Park. The waiter was a very nice and charming guy. The atmosphere of the restaurant is fun and funky. As for food- our appetizers were amazing - I had the Octopus salad and my wife had the watermelon, yellow tomatoes fetta salad. Two great summer choices. I had the beef tenderloin (which was very tasty but I think they can improve on the cuts of beef they buy) and my wife had the lamb (she felt same- very tasty but maybe a higher quality meat would make it that much better). Afterwards they gave us a free round of Moscato to celebrate our day. A nice classy touch. Excellent atmosphere, great service and very good food. We would definitely go back and highly recommended it. Not a cheap ticket, but an enjoyable all around!

Disappointed!
I selected this restaurant to celebrate a dear friend's birthday. The view is wonderful--if you're seated at the North-facing windows. Unfortunately, not all the tables can enjoy this view. We were seated at a table closer to 58th Street = no view. Overall, the service was okay. We noted bread and butter plate/knife as part of our place settings. After our drinks were served and our first course, we asked our server for bread and she acted surprised it hadn't been delivered. it was shortly thereafter. We both order seafood entrees. My friend had the pan-seared hake. It was quite a generous portion. I ordered the diver scallops. There were four on the plate sitting atop some sliced, sauteed mushrooms. While the portion was small, it suited me fine as I don't have a hearty appetite. The thing that bothered us, however, was that both entrees were barely warm. Tepid seafood is totally unpleasant in my opinion. We shared the flourless chocolate cake which was tasty, the espresso ice cream was terrible. Not at all creamy and little if any flavor. The din in the room was almost unbearable. It was just a disappointing experience and I think this place is better suited for drinks when out-of-towners are visiting where the bar area is at the North-facing windows. Paying $138 for so-so food (dinner for 2, 1 glass of wine each) and no view is just not worth it.

Great experience
We were recommended to Robert by the conciege at the Meridien. Her comments were, that it's not easy to combine a great view with a great dining experience, but Robert qualifies on all criteria. She was so right! The atmosphere is outstanding, with views of Columbus Circle and Central Park. The food was outstanding as well. Service was impeccable. We enjoyed our dinner so much that we returned for lunch a few days later and the experience was the same. Highly recommended, and we will definitely return on our next trip to the City.

Magnificent View, Mediocre Meal
Dinner at Robert must be an extraordinary experience if you are seated at a table next to the windows overlooking the illuminated fountains of Columbus Circle and the NYC skyline. That view could absolutely overshadow the meal itself. Unfortunately, we were seated as far from the windows as one could sit, near an annoying powerpoint loop of anorexic semi-nude fashion models. Service was good, food was nothing special, overpriced, and portions were tiny. Rolls were stale, lamb ordered medium was gray, lobster pie was actually root vegetable pie in lobster bisque, and the teaspoon of ice cream that accompanied the tablespoon of peach crisp was so small that it completely melted before I could eat it. If you dine in restaurants for the atmosphere, then insist on a window seat and go here. If you are looking for a memorable dining experience at a fair price, Robert is not for you.
