Best Italian in NYC. And I'm a New Yorker.
Just came back from a PHENOMENAL meal from Cotto. The Greek salad had the most scrumptious kalamata olives. The bresoala was fantastic. But the piece de resistance was the carbonara. Truly, the best carbonara in the city. I give this restaurant a ten out of five. I know that sounds hyperbolic, but I really do think the food in this joint is a work of art.

Cotto Cafe
Honestly I was raised in the Lower East Side. Me and a friend wanted to have an early diner and we were walking up n down until we fond Cotto. At first, I thought oh gee im gonnna rgret this one. Only to eat and thier food is like incredible, thier service was impacable. I so have to go back. I had pinot grigio, brushchetta as a starter and finishe it all with the best Chicken Parmesan I have ever had in my entire life! I so MUST go back really soon lol. Thanks Ristorante Cotto Cafe, your food and service is exceptional...

Not recommended
in a city rife with great italian food, cafe cotto was disappointing. my partner and I started with one of the specials of the day, the grilled calamari with a tomato and corn salad. the calamari was tough and overcooked, the salad under-seasoned and there was no corn! next we decided to share two of the pasta dishes; the 'home made' pappardelle cotto and the rigatoni barese. the pappardelle had the consistency of play doh and was sitting in a soup of pesto cream with a tomato sauce that tasted as though it had been used a few days ago to saute fish. my partner was gracious enough to trade dishes and so i was on to the rigatoni. while the pasta was cooked fine it was sitting in an inch of butter and had no flavor. to add insult to injury, the waiter never once came by to check how the meal was, and after noticing that our dishes weren't eaten, simply asked if we were finished and cleared our plates.

Wonderful Employees
I have now visited the restaurant a couple of times due to my experience with the Waiters and busboys. You typically get the sense of being just another annoying customer when you eat at places, but the employees at Cotto are a pleasure. I usually let the waiter there make a recommendation due to his exquisite taste on fine foods. I am taking the time to recommend this place because it has proved good service everytime I have been there.
