    Definitely worse than before

I had been to this restaurant several times before, and had usually found the food to be decent if not great, and the ambience to be calm and restful. When I went back recently, it had definitely changed for the worse, in every aspect; the food was not as good (cheaper ingredients?), the restaurant was noisy (though that's really due to the loud patrons)there seemed to be less waitstaff, and the service was less than acceptable (unfriendly hostess, inattentive waiter). I had ordered ice cream for dessert, and it came out half melted, as if it had been sitting in the kitchen for a while before being served. I didn't send it back, but at the same time, I am definitely not returning to this restaurant...they seem to have forgotten that dining experience consists of more than just food.

    Used to be better ..

Went for a business lunch today and was extremely disappointed. Not only was the waiter less than attentive but after asking for brown rice (none) and then for soy paper instead the waiter brings out all the sushi with rice and soy paper! Not wanting to send food back, we just ate. The food was decent and the atmosphere is nice but there are definitely better options in the area. Don't think I'll be going back.

    Disappointed

I had heard good things, and I've been to Marcus's Aquavit, so we were expecting greatness. If you go, be sure to avoid the table we had: in the hallway next to the server's station. Each time they grabbed some silverware, they slammed the drawer closed and we felt it in the back of our booth seat. Plus, we were privy to all their chit-chat about other tables- not cool. When I ordered a Gibson to start, our waitress was not quite sure what it was. I explained that a Gibson is a gin martini served with cocktail onions. The woman at the next table said, 'I think he's the only man in the world who knows what a Gibson is!". The braised short rib dish was unique: the meat was seared into a block about the size of a deck of cards (but twice as thick). The result is a crisp, carbon exterior- wonderfully, juicy within. About $140 for the three of us. Will not return.

    Surprisingly Great

I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a dinner this much. The scallop appetizer was amazing! The food here is for an experienced and adventuresome palette. Very interesting blends of flavor and textures. The service was terrific and the specialty drinks were just that, special. I will go back for sure!

This place needs some salt or butter!

The chicken dumplings were sour. The chicken had absolutely no taste to it, and neither did the mushrooms and spinach that came with it. And the donuts with ice cream had no wow factor. Let's just say i wanted mcdonald's afterwards. The beef short rib with apple puree was however excellent. The place is interesting looking and the service was great. Except for the end when we could tell the waiter wanted to leave and was rushing us out. It went from "hi!! drinks anyone??" to "you guys don't want dessert do you??" - with the check in his hand.

    Not Good

Boring. Bad layout. I asked to move from one of the middle tables downstairs that are all by the kitchen entrance/waiter booth, to a table in the back room and was told they were reserved even though they were empty.....I didn't understand how my reservation couldn't work for them though. The waiter changed shifts at the end of our meal (9pm) and the new waiter messed up the check. The regular food was just ok. The rolls and sushi were good. Overall, I wouldn't go back.

    Great service, sushi & desserts

Went to Riingo for restaurant week and would definitely recommend it- the salmon avocado roll was exceptionally fresh and well assembled, the codfish with cabbage and plum was pretty but the taste was only so so, and the donuts with green tea ice cream were really yummy- the donuts were prepared to order, so they were served hot and crisp on the outside. Although the aesthetic is different from Aquavit, the ambience is similar; service is warm and attentive without being overbearing, and it's perfect for a romantic date.
