    Great Food, Great Experience

The food was delicious. Black rice w edamame, yum. Awesome brunch special! Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. Can't wait to come back.

    Good lunch, poor service

Tried "Rice"for the first time 11/5/09 and was very disappointed. The food was good, perfect quick lunch and the right portion size. The service however was slow, rude and inattentive. The restaraunt was not busy and there was plenty of time to provide service. The tea ordered at the beginning of the meal arrived at the end. The waiter never came to get the check. When I finally decided to go to the registered I was told they don't take cards. No problem but again the waiter never came to take the cash. I approached the register, for the second time, and was told I had to have the waiter complete the check. As this point I explained that I had been waiting more the 15 minutes to leave and would like to close the check. The cashier then closed the check and rudely presented me with change. I will not be returning to this establishment. The servers and staff don't care about the patrons.

    disappointing experience

tasted like microwaved curry in a bowl. strange flavors that was worse than instant curry you can buy at a supermarket. they don't accept credit cards, but accepts checks. wtf?

not as good as it used to be

I've been a faithful rice customer for 5 years, but this location recently seems on the decline. a takeout order of my favorite standby (thai coconut curry) arrived tasting strangely sour and tinged a peculiar color. I wasn't sure if it was a new recipe (maybe adding an ill-advised balsamic vinegar to the curry?) or if it was rancid. Either way, I hope they'll go back to their tastier ways!

    not very good

The restaurant looks nice; that's where the compliments end. The chairs and table were way too low which made for an awkward sit-down meal (fyi, I'm 5'9", no giant). Very uncomfortable. The service was slow. They did not accept credit cards (had to run to an ATM to pay at the end). This normally wouldn't bug me except it's not that small of restaurant and not advertised until the bill comes. Lastly, the food wasn't too great. It wasn't bad per se, but it sure as hell wasn't good. The rice (the main component hence the name of the place) was pretty tasteless. The meat and sauce components were uninspired and even clashed. I would not recommend this restaurant, there are plenty of better places in the area.

    Disappointed in Gramercy

We went to Rice in Brooklyn about a year ago and had a great experience. Meeting friends in Gramercy, we decided to go to Rice. Although the restaurant was fairly empty, we stood at the door for a long time until we were greeted and seated. We sat down and then had to wait another ten minutes until the waiter came to take our order even though he was standing at the take-out counter talking to the employee there as we kept looking at him to take our order. After we ordered, our waiter returned to tell us that they were out of two of the types of rice we had ordered and out of the beer we ordered. When we finally got our food, it was mushy, cold and used too much spice and flavoring. The food and service at the Brooklyn Rice had been so great and after raving to our friends about this great restaurant, we were all disappointed and went away hungry. If you want to go to Rice, go to Brooklyn!

    Poor Service, Mushy Food

I've been to Rice a few times, each time disappointed but thinking they were just "off." But after tonight, I'm through! The food that I've had (meatballs, tofu, lentil soup) is always mushy and either very over- or under-spiced. Servers are totally clueless, rude, and way too slow. Boring decor, bad service, bland food. Will not be back. If you havent been, trust me, it's not worth it!
