    Mixed bag

Visited Resto with very high hopes after reading about it on Serious Eats. The beignets - airy and light with a wonderful crispy exterior - were far more successful without the accompanying chocolate sauce. Side order of frites w/ gribiche sauce showed great promise, but was marred by about 1/4 of the order being extremely dry and powdery. The "Grilled cheese with Vermont cheddar, gruyere, pork belly & bacon" sounded great but turned out to be so unmemorable and insipid, I had to look up the description online after the fact as we couldn't really taste either of the cheeses or even identify what pork products were being used. Combine that with too much dry bread, and you have a perfectly meh sandwich. The chicken and waffles was a perfect lesson in how fancying up a classic dish does not necessarily make it better. The chicken interior was mushy and mealy - the manager explained that it was chicken CONFIT, making it "soft and tender". If you like chicken confit, you may like this dish, but if you're looking for solid fried chicken, go somewhere else. The accompanying "bacon liege waffle" was a huge failure, lacking the chewy-doughy interior and slightly crackly crust of a good Liege waffle. This was instead, dry, mealy and tough. The citrus-chili syrup just didn't seem to belong, and served only to further confuse the flavors. The memorable beignets might lead me to believe we missed out on the best dishes to be had, but with so many misses, it's safe to say that I won't be returning any time soon.

    Amazing beef cheek

Pigs ear salad and Beef Cheek braised in beer. I have found Mecca. This place rocks. BTW they have about 150 beers to choose from. Enough Said.

    Not recommended

We went on the basis of the Chowhound Lunch Deal and were very disappointed. Extraordinarily noisy-even at lunch. Service was churlish and condescending and not very swift-even when we made our time constrainsts known. No bread--They don't get their delivery until 3:00! They served last nights waffles for dessert-how about last nights bread warmed up? Mussels were fair and frites just okay. The extra sauces were second rate.

    WOW

Absolutely the best mussels (plump and juicy) and frites just wonderfully crisp , and the portions were huge - the server was very lovely too even though they made a mistake with the order they were nice about it and we didn't have to wait long for the correct food to come out. The only downside is the earsplitting noise level - some of the worst restaurant acoustics in NY- I had to shout so that my friend could hear me - and we weren't even there late or on a weekend. Still the food more than makes up for that.

    Date night

Suggested to my fiance we try Resto. We have lived in Murry Hill for two years and have never been. One of the best meals I've had. I had the bass with potatoes and ramps and he had this beef rib that was like southern BBQ. We split some beer ice cream which was pretty cool It was all really great and the service was super friendly and very informative. I am going to try brunch this weekend.

    Amazing chicken for Two

Got the Chicken for two and a bottle of southern Italian red and it was one of the best meals I've had in a long time.

Bad Food, Bad Service + Plastic In My Food!

I was definitely not pleased with my experience at Resto. First, we had a reservation and were left waiting for our table anyway. My french onion soup appetizer was extremely bitter. Then I had the lamb shoulder. It was on top of polenta and smoked tomatoes. There were no contrasting textures and so it felt like I was eating baby food. It also had no taste. As if that weren't bad enough, I then found plastic in my meal! When I told the waitress, she acted like it was no big deal = "The chef wraps the lamb in plastic, so that's why it happened." Instead of receiving money off the bill, I was given an extra dessert, even though I had lost my appetite. The dessert was good, but then again it was just a chocolate bar, so it's not as if they made it themselves. Sure, the beer is good, but I will not be giving Resto any of my money again.
