Great atmosphere and service
Had brunch recently.. very pleased with the atmosphere and service.. nice selection of beers and food was very good.. only gripe is the burger only comes served well done.. not a problem that they serve it the way the chef personally likes it- but they should tell you that on the menu..that it is dry and well done so that u have an option not to order it... its also very pricey as it is the size of a shake shack burger... they offer a normal sized one but the price is significantly higher.. would dine here again as all the other dishes were quite nice..

Excellent burger, BUT
Excellent burger and fries. Warm, attentive service, even with our modest no-booze order. BUT, the noise level is unbearable, going so far beyond the convivial, laughter and chatter that's become the norm. My friend and I just fled, turning down luscious-sounding desserts for a quieter spot elsewhere. I assume this is deliberate, since more money's made at the start of your visit, cocktails and such, and they'd just as soon get you o-u-t quickly. The net result: We'll never return.

They must be paying attention
A friend recommended that I try Resto, and I made a rese despite some of the cautionary reviews. I arrived for my initial visit, alone, and could not have had a warmer welcome. (I'm an over-50 male, so no one was looking for action!) The service was attentive, as well. So what else? Oh, the food was delightful: pigs ear salad was tasty and crunchy, and the lambs neck entree very appealing. Without my beer friends along, I had a glass of white wine, then a red. Kudos to whoever put them on the list. I look forward to returning, and to introducing friends to Resto.

Great food - Haughty Service
Dear Owner of Resto, I rarely write reviews but I felt it was important to bring some issues to your attention. First I want to start by saying, I am a regular and I love the food! There are limited brunch options in the neighborhood and after enduring the lines at Penelope’s, only to be greeted by a mediocre meal, I was so happy to finally find great food around the corner from my apartment. Please never change your food! This said, I think there is one area that needs serious improvement. The service leaves something to be desired. It was difficult to put my finger on exactly what bothered me, however after reading some of the reviews here, one contributor described the service as haughty, which I think accurately describes the issue. As a regular (you will find my girlfriend and me perched at the bar nearly every Sunday) I have never been given any kind of reception and almost zero interaction from any of the staff during my visits. That is with the exception of my most recent visit – even before having a chance to ask for a table, I was asked to hand over the cup of coffee I had walked in off the street with. At the time, I was finishing a phone call while standing near the entrance. Despite the sour taste her request left in my mouth, upon sitting, I of course ordered my standard; French toast and coffee (best French toast in NY). Aside from the coffee stupidity, my comments are more general and targeted to the cold, somewhat snobbish and less than accommodating attitude of the staff. At all the places I frequent, I generally have a relationship with the bartender or the hostess. Nothing crazy but after the 3rd or 4th visit, I am typically greeted with a smile and “a nice to see you again” or something similar, if not much more. This has never been my experience at Resto and in my opinion the staff feels about as connected to their work as a McDonald's cashier. There is more, but I think I made my point. If I could make a recommendation – send a friend in to eat a few Sundays in a row. I have no doubt they will have similar findings. A little warmer service would make Resto a nearly perfect restaurant. - Hope this is helpful

Good burger, thats about it
I've been here for dinner and brunch and I actually love their burger, but the service has been terrible both times and it's always unbearably loud. My fries were so overly salted that I literally had to blow the salt off before every bite. I also got the honey ricotta toast which was overpriced and mediocre at best. There was barely any ricotta and it was served with 2 pieces of lightly toasted Wonderbread - really? Also, you don't need to work in the food service industry to know when and how to acknowledge your diners, or other human beings for that matter. The very least you could do is say "Ok" when you're taking orders, although I think saying "thank you" is preferred, and "you're welcome" is usually a pretty standard after you are thanked for something.

Excellent Burger!
My first dining experience at Resto was about 3 years ago when I first moved to the city and I was not at all impressed. The menu was weird and hard to order from and the burger, which I heard rave reviews, was burnt and pretty much inedible. A couple months ago I went back , mostly because some friends wanted to try the beer selection. Boy was I more than surprised at how amazing that burger was, which I later learned was due to a new chef. I have been back several times and can't get enough. It's char grilled which I normally don't like but the flavor from the fats merries with the char flavor to perfection. I can't wait to go back!

Mixed bag
Visited Resto with very high hopes after reading about it on Serious Eats. The beignets - airy and light with a wonderful crispy exterior - were far more successful without the accompanying chocolate sauce. Side order of frites w/ gribiche sauce showed great promise, but was marred by about 1/4 of the order being extremely dry and powdery. The "Grilled cheese with Vermont cheddar, gruyere, pork belly & bacon" sounded great but turned out to be so unmemorable and insipid, I had to look up the description online after the fact as we couldn't really taste either of the cheeses or even identify what pork products were being used. Combine that with too much dry bread, and you have a perfectly meh sandwich. The chicken and waffles was a perfect lesson in how fancying up a classic dish does not necessarily make it better. The chicken interior was mushy and mealy - the manager explained that it was chicken CONFIT, making it "soft and tender". If you like chicken confit, you may like this dish, but if you're looking for solid fried chicken, go somewhere else. The accompanying "bacon liege waffle" was a huge failure, lacking the chewy-doughy interior and slightly crackly crust of a good Liege waffle. This was instead, dry, mealy and tough. The citrus-chili syrup just didn't seem to belong, and served only to further confuse the flavors. The memorable beignets might lead me to believe we missed out on the best dishes to be had, but with so many misses, it's safe to say that I won't be returning any time soon.
