Wish I'd found it sooner
Silly me...I've been going to Jesus Taco for two years whenever I needed a Tex-Mex fix. I wish I hadn't passed up this little sliver of a place for so long. I checked out their menu here at menupages and discovered they had a chicken flauta appetizer for $6 - my favorite thing from back home that I haven't been able to find in NYC. There were three to an order, which came out to two meals for me (I filled up on their yummy rice and beans as well). I probably wouldn't care to eat it, but as I'm only one block away, I'm sold on takeout.

El Mismo Stands Out
We live in the area and El Mismo or as we call it in Ingles, The Same, is a standout. There is a ton of Mexican food in Sugar Hill and this one is the best for its price range. Great sopas, enchiladas and excelled guac. Come for the food y cerveza, $4 Coronas aren't too bad. If you don't speak Spanish just point and then be sure to say La cuenta por favor, otherwise you could be there for days.

real mexican food in new york
I live in the area and have walked past El Mismo a lot. I finally went in for lunch today. The food was great. Fresh, homemade and authentic. The downside, only Spanish is spoken, but the menu has some English translations. You know you're getting the real deal when the majority of their clients are Mexican.
