Great for lunch!
I've never been to Republic in the evening but I can tell you it's the perfect spot to meet a friend for lunch! Every dish I've gotten there has an interesting blend of flavors and the portions are just the right size. I like the modern interior and I don't mind sharing a table with other people--it just ads to the restaurants character. I read some of the other reviews that said the waitstaff was rude or inattentive but I've never had any major problems there. Every time I go to NYC I make sure to stop by Republic. I recommend the spicy beef noodles or the salmon and curried rice.

Tasty Food, good luck with the waitstaff
The food here is tasty, and very reasonable for the union sq area, but the wait staff leaves a lot to be desired. This place is not good for dates, or any time that you want to have a quiet conversation. It gets very loud and everyone is seated at these long tables, no private tables. The wait staff isn't rude, they just don't pay attention to you. Once when i asked for the check, my guest and I sat there for 15 minutes!! We asked everyone who passed, but no one wanted to assist us because they weren't our waiter, but our waiter was nowhere to be found. Still though, for the value and the location, i go back regularly.

Decent food, poor service
the food is a little hit or miss, but relatively decent... It's just simply not worth the exceptionally rude attitude you receive when eating there. About ten minutes after we received our food and before we had finished, one of the staff came over and practically took the chopsticks out of our hands and told us that they needed our table. We weren't quite finished with our entrees before they were snatched away, but it was fine... The atrocious attitude made us lose our appetites anyway.

Great noodle-house, marvelous sorbets
This noodle house with cafeteria-like seating serves excellent beef skewers and a marvelous selection of cocktails and sorbets (for dessert of course). Place was crowded, and the service was adequate. I was surprised by how low the prices were, and once again, the sorbets were some of the best I had ever had (try coconut and mango).

Great fusion food!
Me and my girlfriend order take out from this place frequently. We have tried all the noodles. The broth noodles are okay but the noodles without soup are excellent. I reccomend the bbq pork noodle or beef noodle salad if you go there. The interior has a trendy vibe but the seats are too close to each other even in nyc standards that it's not a good idea to eat here on the weekends. Service isn't that good and once the manager put us on hold for over ten minutes when we were trying to order on a 4pm sunday afternoon. However, most experiences with take out and delivery has been superb and the food is great for the price.

Fast and reliable
We order delivery from here at least once per week. The seared salmon, pork chop, and salmon soup are tasty, reliable favorites. We live on block from Wash Sq. park, and unless its a busy weekend eve, the food arrives reliably in < 14 minutes. It feels instantaneous. We've tried numerous Asian delivery places in the surrounding area and for the cost, it can't be beat. The only other place with similarly speedy service and value is Saigon Grill, which is good for a change.
