I took my mom here when she was visiting NYC- we wanted Thai but we didn't want to pay a ton of money. This restaurant was amazing. I had the seafood Pad Thai and it was sooo tasty. My dirty martini was even better their pomegranite margarita is even better. The atmosphere is chill and trendy at the same time- service was great. people were friendly, we got our food and drinks very quickly even though it was a pretty busy night. I will for sure be going back many more times!

This was a favored spot for the longest time. I used to always order the seafood broth noodles, which were great. Last time I stopped in there, they changed the broth. Much to my disappointment, It's now a sour tomato-based broth. Be careful when ordering takeout, because the delivery people will frown at you if they feel you've under-tipped them. The restaurant could really use some sound baffling as well, although perhaps some people like the mess hall ambience.

1 - Bet on losing your voice from screaming over the din, but don't worry, their soups are great for your throat if it hurts. 2 - If you don't mind a strange person sitting half way up your a$$, you'll get along fine here. 3 - I'm going to strongly suggest they remove the Re from their name, and call themselves Public, since your conversation is made as such when you're on a bench next to people you don't know. If you can tolerate this kind of atmosphere, I suggest the Chicken and Lime soup. It's pretty flippin' awesome.

I use to eat 3-4 times a week from Republic, as it's in my neighborhood and have fast service. But things have changed all of a sudden. They changed the menu in the store, but didn't update their website. they have increased (from $8 to $11), which is understandable if they served the same food as before. They are not though. They have also decreased ingredients in the food (my favorite entree lost 2/6 ingredients), which means I'm now paying 37% more for 60% of the ingredients.

I thought it would be great just with the location and the atmosphere of the place alone but the food was bad and the place was a little too noisy. The waiter was inattentive as well. When he came over and notice that my friend and I had hardly touched our food (we maybe had three bites each - the plate was basically the same way that they brought it to us) you would think he would say or do something since we did not enjoy our food (and we even said something about it) but he did nothing. Even though the prices are not that high, I could have better spent my money just eating next door at the McDonald's!

First off, I never knew this place was in union square- its quite a large restaurant...we walked in (2 people) and asked for a table for 3. We were told sorry , we can't seat you until your party is here -mind you the restaurant was 3/4 of the way empty....finally after standing there for a few minutes one of the staff said if you go to the back we will seat you...so we did- but here is the weird part...I'm all for communal tables but the place was empty! there were smaller tables in the back in the middle but we were again told that is only for groups of 2 or 4 groups of 3 can't sit there and they sat us at this huge long table by ourselves... I just don't get it.. Wait staff were a bit rude and uninterested in actually being waitstaff...felt rushed and they seemed angry that we didn't order any alcoholic drinks from the bar...Also, none of the seats have backs on them- which is fine for about 10 minutes and then you geta little tired. But, the food was absolutely delicious and the prices can't be beat...i had curried duck in noodles- yum yum ! appetizersand food come out quickly. All in all I would go here again- but would not come for anything more than a casual meal.

I live in Europe most of the year but as soon as I return to the BIG APPLE I make a mandatory stop at Republic. I'm an Asian food lover and I don't like most typical Asian restaurants that cater to dinning sophistication rather than good plentiful eating portions as Republic does. Republic is your typical community dinner where you can strike a conversation with the people sharing the table with you. Service is straight forward and efficient no fancy fancy waiter show. Lets remember the objective is to eat!! Buon Appetito!
