I ordered the chopped salad and found exactly three miniscule pieces of tofu in it. I essentially paid $11 for a giant bowl of cabbage. The restaurant was very loud-- it wasn't very crowded though; it must be the acoustics of the place. The waiters were very attentive, so I can't complain about the service.

I am really puzzled by some of the reviews, as this place serves up tasty noodles and noodle soups that are as good as they were when they opened 15 years ago. Spicy duck is addictive, and the open and clean kitchen allows you to watch your food being handled and prepared properly. Not like the typical dirty dungeon thai places throughout Manhattan.

This is the first Thai I've ever had when I first ordered circa 2003, and I've been to a couple of Thai place since, paid more and been disappointed. The prices are good and the food always taste fresh, an open kitchen is always a plus!! I've called for take out most of the time and if my food not ready they always offer me a cooling beverage. Went for a solo dinner today, had the salmon sashimi salad; it was yummy & for the price worth more. The Salmon rice dish is my fav. Don't let bad reviews keep you away, I have slowly started to realize you should judge for yourself and your own palate. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for hip cheap eats!

I've been ordering from this place since it opened and it was always pretty good, but lately.... I don't know what has changed, but the quality and preparation have gone way downhill... especially with the seared salmon- which was always one of my favorites..it's arriving overcooked and the past 2 times looks as if it is thrown in the rice and pickled vegetables... very disappointing.

I can't believe I just paid $12 for something that tastes like instant noodles, the kind where you just add water. I ordered the lime chicken: 1) chicken in not shredded 2) chicken does not taste like real chicken 3) service over the phone seems to be just as bad as in person 4) not notable and very forgetable. wonder how they keep in business

Been to Republic a few times over the past couple years. The food is simply delicious. We particularly like the Lime Chicken and the Chicken Pad Thai. Both are delicious re-heated too, which is great since the portions are large. The only negative for Republic is the atmosphere. The room is one large box, and the volume of echoing conversations makes it hard to hear your company. Also, the seating is like a fancy picnic table, with no backs on the benches. Most probably don't find it irritating, but I do. Lastly, half the time you'll have to share a table with other people, since the tables are large and accommodate more than 2 people. Even with these drawbacks, I still highly recommend Republic.

I get delivery dinner about 2 to 3 nights during the summer. Almost everything I've ordered has been most pleasing until last night. The Pad Thai was disappointing. Bland, and the seafood PT was smelly. Not a sighting of anything green (like green onions) in the dish. Too many carrots and just no flavor whatsoever. Very disappointing.
