I really enjoyed this restaurant. The wait was extremely short, and we were a party of six, though we did get there mid-afternoon. The food was delicious, and it came out very quickly. The prices are so cheap, I never thought I'd see prices that low in the city. The portions are large too. The service is pretty good, not the best. The atmosphere is also so so.

I took my pet here and the staff was very nice about letting him stay on the floor in his hood and leash. I had three or four appetizers and they were delicious. But the place was just too loud, especially the customers who called us freaks.

Reminds me of my experiences in Asia- flavorful food, huge portions and not too expensive. I've been several times; twice my companion and I were seated with other people, the last time we had our own table. Sitting with other people is kind of fun as you can either strike up a conversation over the interesting dishes on the menu or do your own thing. Occasionally the noise can be a hindrance to conversation, though. Still, one of my favorite places to eat in the city.

people who don't like the noise and the fact that you may not be at a table all alone often don't frequent this place...which is perfect. the result is a fun (and maybe even tipsy) younger contingent who love the casual atmosphere, great great food and perfect prices. have a few drinks first and go after 9 for the best experience.

This place is just too loud. It's got high school cafeteria style seating and everyone is screaming. The food is good and a decent value, but you're better off just getting it delivered. Wait staff is rushed and not very attentive.

Republic is a Union Square institution, so it is a must-try, but be aware that there are provisos to enjoying your dinner there. The food is absolutely delicious and reasonably priced, especially for this super-trendy corner of Union Square. The place is guaranteed to be full, with a wait to sit, and sometimes unbelievably loud. If you have a small group, 4 or less, you will likely be seated at a large table with several other people. The huge noodle photos on the wall make for great atmosphere as long as you don't want to have too much meaningful conversation. Go with at least 8 so you get your own table without intrusions from other people, and enjoy watching your order being beamed into the kitchen via the waitstaff's uber-cool PDA-type order pads.

the pad thai's, pork and beef dishes, and sashimi salad are all very good! great price, fast food. you might have to wait long for fri/sat night.
