Almost always perfect!
I've eaten at Republic several times and it's fine for a quick meal with a friend if you don't mind noise. But lately I've been ordering delivery and always get the BBQ pork. In the past year they seem to have changed the way they prepare the pork, even though I asked waitress once and she said they didn't. There wasn't much fat on the pork and they were cut into larger strips, but regardless that's still my favorite item and they always make it the way I like it and delivery it very quickly! The chocolate truffle cake is also very very good!

Pretty decent
I had a pretty decent lunch at Republic. I got their coconut creme lime drink and their curry duck noodles. The drink was good and the noodles were pretty good. Adding some sweet and hot sauce helped, but on the whole, it wasn't too bad. I'd go back for lunch.

disappointing and unfortunate
I went there a few weeks ago for a lunch date. I really wanted to like the place because I'd heard such awesome things about it, but I have to say that I was roundly disappointed. The iced tea tasted rotten, the pad thai was okay but tasted like feet (I believe someone else has pointed that out, too) and the salad was practically inedible: soggy ingredients and bland dressing with some garnish on top. I'd be willing to try it again because, like I said, I've heard lots of good things, but the first go-round was icky.

Very dry food, nothing was good about it
There wasn't anything special about this Asian food and since there's endless number of Great Asian food around - there's no reason to go there. I tried it twice and the food was dry and tasteless. I find no reason to go back

blah
I have been here two times. First time I had a broth noodle dish, beef one and it was very blant. Second time I tried the spciy duck curry and my bf had the pad thai. Both were not good. Come on now! Thai places usually have very tasty dishes. The noodles tasted like they were just boiled and they threw some sauce on it afterwards and some veggies. The taste of the dishes dont hold together in your mouth, just falls apart! So disappointing....

Reviews are unreliable
If it weren't for the reviews on this site I probably never would have dined at the restaurant. First of all, with a decor styled to invite chic dressed diners I was surprised to find the table accommodations to be like cafeteria seating. Some people may like dining at literally the same table and share the same seats on a bench; I would have rather payed 2 dollars for the same experience on the subway. Service: Our server was, well, stone faced. Upon entering the restaurant my guest and I were casually called over by the waving of fingers from across the dining room then sat down with our menus without so much as a word. Our server came over nearly ten minutes later and asked us for our order (neglecting to first ask for drinks). Never mentioning a name or offering more then the occasional look at our water glasses. Not once did we hear "welcome to Republic" or "thank you". Food: Our appetizers came right away, and hot I might add. The dumplings were rather tasteless and had a texture that erred on play-dough and tapioca. The beef satay on the other hand was quite good, marinated nicely with a tangy sauce. Shooting one at of two might lead you to believe the entres would have only been at least better then the previous offering. After a prolonged wait they did actually arrive. My guest had the wonton soup. The broth had a nice spicy bite with a creamy texture, but the noodles were a bit too soft. the wontons themselves were awkwardly shaped in a way I can only describe as similar to the birdie in the game "bad mitten". It was strange and even stranger to try and maneuver then into your mouth with the provided spoon. Luckily, a fork (which had to be requested) solved our odd dilemma. Then there was my pad thai. I can't argue that this place was expensive, but for $13 for this entree I would think a few more than 3 shrimp would be acceptable. Beyond that, my carrots were not even close to being cooked all the way and the sprouts laden at the bottom had obviously just come off a refrigerated line and straight to the bottom of my cold plate. And finally, I urge anyone that goes to this restaurant to order the ice coffee, take it to go and then taste it side by side to a Starbucks can of Ice Coffee and try to find a difference in flavor. If my drink did not come straight out of a can I would be surprised.

1 of my favorite restaurants
I love this place! Their soups are amazing...my favorite is the salmon coconut broth noodles. Delish! I do agree that the seating is interesting. It's like long picnic tables and other people can sit right next to during dinner. It also can get very loud there, but that's what NYC is all about. The prices are a steal for being right in 1 of the most popular areas of the city! Good for the pocket and the stomach!
