The Renaissance Diner on Ninth Avenue in Manhattan has good foods, but not good enough to overcome the really bad attitude of the employees. The last time I was there, a gum chewing, surly waiter sauntered over and uttered something I could not understand, English being my primary language. When I asked him to repeat what he said, he muttered a little louder, "Know what ya want?" I replied that I was ready to order. There were very few other customers in the restaurant, but I waited a long time for my food, and when it arrived, it was not to order. When I repeated my original order, the server sneered and said, "Really?" It was at this point that I told him not to bother, and I left. This was the worst service I've had, but I've rarely had pleasant service in this restaurant. The employees are very busy been charming and chatty with each other, and not enough time tending to the customers. I agree that the take out counter is the only way to go if you can't find anyplace else to eat. Adequate food is rarely, if ever, an excuse for rude service.
