This place should be a fave for us - it's close to home, has an appealing ambiance, and it relatively affordable. Despite the repeat attempts and changes in orders, the food remains mediocre, at best -- bland, ordinary Italian food often ill-prepared. The service, too, leaves something to be desired, as the servers are slow and often rude. When Regional first opened, it was good -- nothing special, but consistent and convenient. Now it's just blah, with menu that seems to get shorter and shorter with each visit. I wish I could praise this place because I want to like it, but alas, I don't.

First of all, I totally disagree with all the naysayers about the service. I probably dine here once a month, and I've never had bad service. The servers have always been attentive an polite. The food and presentation are consistently good, and Regional with its $9 pasta nights and $25 prix fixe nights offers probably the best value on the UWS.

Love this spot but dear god the service is subpar. Most of the pasta dishes are great (ravioli and other similar pastas have very small portions). Drink pours are generous as well. Once again though the service will make you grind your teeth.

We should have known there would be a problem with this restaurant when we waited 20 minutes just to have the waiter take our order. Finally he came over, took our order and convinced me and my husband to try a different wine than the glasses we had ordered. The wine, which was good, and the bread and salad came soon thereafter. But then 45 minutes later, the entrees still hadn't come. We saw the food runners taking food to other tables of people who had come in after us, and it wasn't like we were getting anything special, just pasta for a party of four, and two were the specials. Finally I asked about our food order and was told by the waiter, "What do you expect. The restaurant is full and there is only one kitchen." Twenty minutes and two inquiries later, they finally brought our food. While two of the dishes were quite good, the special pasta, which I and a friend ordered, was mediocre at best. Altogether we waited an hour for our food, and were offered not even an extra soft drink or anything, just the same excuse that somehow we were being unreasonable for expecting better serive. We also found out that the half filled glass of wine which the waiter had pushed was $3 more a glass than the ones we had ordered. Although some of the food was good, the poor quality of my dish and the service would keep us for ever returning.

We finally tried Regional for the first time tonight. and it will be the last. The food is so-so, the ambiance ok, needs some acoustic dampering [too many hard surfaces], but the service was inexcusable. we were sitting at the bar and the bartender spilled a bucket of ice water on my wife's lap. 1. The manager was too busy chatting with the regulars to take notice. 2. i cleaned up the water all over the bar and the floor, no one from the restaurant--wait staff, bartender, manager--even asked if they could help, and 3. **no one** offered to buy my wife a drink, deduct anything from the bill; the bartender offered a lackluster apology and that was it. I've lived in this neighborhood for over 20 years and have never felt this shabbily treated.

I think this place is a gem. The pasta is really fantastic.

We went for the first time for brunch at Regional last weekend and I got admit that the unlimited mimosa is a great deal. The food is very good and the service is fast. Beware of the manager....she can be very loud for no reason
