This is by far the best vegetarian/vegan restaurant in all of NYC. Angelica Kitchen, Candle Cafe are good, but no where NEAR the quality of Red Bamboo. The Creole Soul Chicken was amazing. The vegan pistachio milk shake was out of this world! I sure hope they open a restaurant in Philadelphia.

This restaurant never fails to please. It is some of the best vegan food in the city with generous portions. Always pleases non-veggie types, who are surprised at how good the mock meat dishes are, and out of towners. The regular waitresses are fantastic and over-worked. But on a recent Saturday night the seating hostess informed us that (once again) they had run out of desserts. When we suggested they have more on hand for the weekend she very rudely suggested we eat there on a Tuesday when they deliver the desserts! No apology; no thanks for the suggestion, we'll look into it. Red Bamboo, you're great! Tell your employees to be nice especially to your regulars.

I am physically addicted to the soul chicken. I'm not kidding. It is the best thing that I have ever eaten since becoming vegan. Try it with both the hickory sauce AND the mushroom gravy. I actually like it better with the gravy. Compliments it like crazy. If you are unsure as of what to get, get the soul chicken entree. And a milkshake. Any kind. It's so good I'm going to throw up because I'm getting so excited thinking about it.

This is seriously hands down my new favorite restaurant. Before I became vegetarian I loved shrimp cocktail, so when I had it at this restaurant vegan-style and it was better than the real thing I nearly flipped. The grilled bourbon chicken is also out of this world, as is the crispy soul chicken. I have only two suggestions for improvement- the veggies which come on the side could be a little more flavorful and less soggy. Also the chicken parmigiana is great, but could use a little more soy-cheese. After all, as vegans we hardly get to eat yummy soy cheese so the last thing I want is it to be skimpy.

I just had the Soul Chicken Sandwich. It was honestly one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. The tangy pseudo-mayo sauce was wonderful. Lunch special for $5.95--cannot beat the value! You are missing out if you don't try this place. I will be back tomorrow with my friend to try something new (if I can muster the willpower not to order that delicious sandwich again).

I've eaten at Red Bamboo several times and generally always enjoy the experience. I like the ambiance, the service staff is friendly and helpful, the value for what you order is great and the food is tasty. I'm vegan and I take my boyfriend (this is one of his favorite vegetarian restaurants) and we always get the vegan bbq buffalo wings with the Vegan Sesame Garlic Blue Cheese-sooo good-best I've ever had and certainly a must. I'm also a fan of creole crispy chicken (cajun version of vp2's soul crispy chicken so you can't go wrong), bamboo club, french fries, and very good soy shakes. My only complaint is that they're not open later. I've only had one unpleasant experience and that was a few weeks ago when there was a water boiling notice for NYC and my bf and I drank lots of the table water and for the next 24 hours paid for it.

I rarely submit reviews but wanted to for this experience so that Red Bamboo might read it and work on its staff- the food is great, but i went recently for a late lunch to impress an out of town guest, and received very poor service. It took the waitress at least an hour to get us waters and our drink orders, she forgot one of them, and we had to ask her 3 times to bring the drinks. She went into a monologue about how busy she was- although there were only 3-4 seated tables- it was rude to tell us she didn't have time to serve us, when she could have gotten our drinks instead of talking to us. Then she got 1 appetizer order wrong, one entree order wrong, and part of my entree wrong.she sort of giggled and said, "you must really hate me now!" and offered no discount or to bring the correct meals. My guests were luckily good natured about this but i was disappointed- before that day it was my favorite veggie place in new york.
