very good chicken and rib dishes, but side dishes are subpar
I resally like a good fake-meat dish, I go to may-wah in chinatown for the best of the best, it is frozen, to eat at home, but as far as restaurants, this is good, better than most, but the delivery man shook his head because i gave him a $3.80 tip for ordering one dish and a soda. My customer at my shop was shocked and asked him,"is something wrong?" and he complained,"Tip too SMALL!" but ok, it's not that terrible, kind of like chinatown, sometimes they throw the food at you, it's part if the fun.. The side dishes are like overcooked, boiled carrot slices and collard greens which u will throw out. (and those are so easy to make, toss some soy sauce in them, chop it up..it's fine...somehow they ruin them beyond belief..really. the main dishes are good if u stick to Soul chicken, southern fried chicken, BBQ ribs, bourbon grilled chicken, and similar things.. stay away from vegetable dishes and expect to toss the side dishes which are in little cups. I heard the vegan ice cream is great too. They make a good fake chicken and rib, stay with these. all in all..I still order these main dishes expecting the poor service and sides..because these is nowhere else like this

Amazingly realistic vegan "meats"
I took my non-vegan mother to this restaurant for her first vegan meal. We ordered fried chicken and ribs, which had the delicious flavor and texture of real meat and left my mother amazed and impressed with vegan food (she was belligerently skeptical at first..) the wait can be long but there are plenty of bars nearby where you can wait and the hostesses at Red Blossom will happily call you on your cell phone when your table is ready! Definitely a must-try for vegans in the city craving soul food!!

Excellent Chicken/Poor Vegetables
After my second experience at Red Bamboo restaurant last night, my boyfriend and I ran into a group of people eyeing the restaurant outside. We quickly gave them a straight to the point review of the place: My boyfriend said their chicken is worth the trip but their vegetables are sub par. I then chimed in saying the vegetables seem like they come straight from a frozen bag. The couple thanked us and I’m not sure if they went in. While that blunt review might seem pretty negative, LET ME TELL YOU The Southern Fried Chicken at Red Bamboo was EXCELLENT. I could eat a huge bite of it and not want another accompaniment to join the fork. Moist like real chicken and great flavor, and no gumminess you might find with other meat alternative products. On the downside, It comes with a side of fries, which seemed like they were the kind of you find in the frozen food section of the supermarket d and collard greens which tasted like perfume and nutmeg, not good. In my opinion, red bamboo is a great restaurant for vegan chicken. Their buffalo wings and southern fried chicken taste great. However, I stay away from vegetable dishes as I’ve found them to be either straight bland or unappetizing.

The best alternative to dining out on Thanksgiving!!
On last Thanksgiving (2010), I fulfilled a wish to visit NYC and see the Annual Macy's Day parade. My daughter came with me. She is very good at navigating and finding quality places to eat. We both enjoy quality food and she recommended that we dine at The Red Bamboo. She has been a vegan for close to 2 years and she visited the restaurant before on a previous trip. As for me, I enjoy trying healthier choices. We ordered the Tempura for appetizers. I felt a little adventurous so I ordered the Salmon dinner rather from the Thanksgiving Buffet which was very attractive and tempting as well. My daughter ordered her favorite dish which I can't recall now. When my plate arrived , I enjoyed eating every bit until the last forkfull. My dish was very delicious and I left satisfied. The prices are very reasonable. I recommend finding this restaurant and enjoying the atmosphere and greeeeaaatttt food!

The best vegetarian restaurant!
This place is awesome! I have been a vegan for 10 years and this place is on the very top of the list! A must try are the CRAB CAKES with chopped fresh mango...AND the chicken cutlets. A must visit with your non-vegan friends to share GOOD vegan food. They also have special kids menu!

Great food, poor customer service
I recently went to the red bamboo for the first time with a friend that had previously dined there, i have to say the food was good but the customer service was poor, they brought the food, did not come back to see if you were okay, we finished our meal and waited and waited for someone to come back to ask if there was anything else, i wanted to place an order for takeout as well, and that took forever, the restaurant was not even full and our waitress was nowhere to be found then she had the nerve to state the tip i left was to small! and asked my friend to tip her some more money!!!i purposely only left a $5 tip because of poor customer service, but to have the nerve to ask..my tip for her is develop more service skills/ my friend wanted to leave another $5 and i said no! if you work in a cusotmer service field, you need to understand that your mannerism and your attitude goes a long way/what you put out is what you get back/ be nice, smile always, even if you do not want to, it's your job and do not, i repeat do not ask for a tip/ if you did not get any, it means you did not deserve one!
