The best alternative to dining out on Thanksgiving!!
On last Thanksgiving (2010), I fulfilled a wish to visit NYC and see the Annual Macy's Day parade. My daughter came with me. She is very good at navigating and finding quality places to eat. We both enjoy quality food and she recommended that we dine at The Red Bamboo. She has been a vegan for close to 2 years and she visited the restaurant before on a previous trip. As for me, I enjoy trying healthier choices. We ordered the Tempura for appetizers. I felt a little adventurous so I ordered the Salmon dinner rather from the Thanksgiving Buffet which was very attractive and tempting as well. My daughter ordered her favorite dish which I can't recall now. When my plate arrived , I enjoyed eating every bit until the last forkfull. My dish was very delicious and I left satisfied. The prices are very reasonable. I recommend finding this restaurant and enjoying the atmosphere and greeeeaaatttt food!

The best vegetarian restaurant!
This place is awesome! I have been a vegan for 10 years and this place is on the very top of the list! A must try are the CRAB CAKES with chopped fresh mango...AND the chicken cutlets. A must visit with your non-vegan friends to share GOOD vegan food. They also have special kids menu!

Great food, poor customer service
I recently went to the red bamboo for the first time with a friend that had previously dined there, i have to say the food was good but the customer service was poor, they brought the food, did not come back to see if you were okay, we finished our meal and waited and waited for someone to come back to ask if there was anything else, i wanted to place an order for takeout as well, and that took forever, the restaurant was not even full and our waitress was nowhere to be found then she had the nerve to state the tip i left was to small! and asked my friend to tip her some more money!!!i purposely only left a $5 tip because of poor customer service, but to have the nerve to ask..my tip for her is develop more service skills/ my friend wanted to leave another $5 and i said no! if you work in a cusotmer service field, you need to understand that your mannerism and your attitude goes a long way/what you put out is what you get back/ be nice, smile always, even if you do not want to, it's your job and do not, i repeat do not ask for a tip/ if you did not get any, it means you did not deserve one!

Great Vegan Food for Meat Lovers
I have enjoyed there for years, the collard green rolls, chicken parm, and roti cani are my favorites. But they need to clean their bathroom, its a mess.

cozy and delicious
Vegetarian places in the city seem to be either upscale and super expensive with great atmosphere or inexpensive and pay at the counter/take to go and not the kind of place where you can have a nice night out to dinner with a nice ambience. Red Bamboo offers the big three: 1) amazing vegetarian food, 2) good price, 3) great, cozy ambience. The service is great too. And it's so great knowing that most people in the restaurant are as concious and caring as you are.

the best mock meat
this place has the best mock meat, hands down! at first it was hard for me to believe that it *wasn't* chicken! the chicken is definitely the best, btw. the seafood and sometimes the beef can be iffy. overall, though, if you're looking for hearty, filling soul food, this is the place for you. the more deep fried the better, bring it on! this isn't a healthy place - it's pure indulgence. to previous reviewers: shame on you for bragging about leaving an insufficient tip. that's how waiters make their money, they don't get hourly, although i wouldn't expect you to know that because you're obviously a self-centered jerk who likely doesn't live in nyc. my sister is an actress and waited tables for years, so if you or anyone in your family had ever had a real job you'd know this. if you don't want to pay properly for the service you get, stay at home.
