    really good

My husband and some friends and I ate at Menu recently. We really liked it. The drinks were very good. My husband got this citrus drink that was so good that I had one too. They brought pate gratis that was delicious. The appetizers were very good and the portions were very generous. I had pork, our friends had soup and crab cake and my husband had the mussels...all delicious. For our entrees, we had steak (a little tough but cooked very well), excellent halibut and wonderful lamb. Then for dessert, we had delicious sorbet and gelato. I would recommend recipe to anyone in the neighborhood. The service was excellent, attentive without being unobtrusive. Go to Recipe.

    Great UWS Spot

I've gone for an appetizer, for dinner, for late-night cocktails, and even ordered delivery....Recipe has a stellar menu at reasonable prices given the quality of food and level of dining. It's a place I can feel comfortable casual or dressed up a bit. All around wonderful place! Looking forward to my next visit!

    Excellent new restaurant!

This is an excellent new addition to the UWS! Really enjoyed the tomato and mozzarella tart, halibut, and banana tart dessert. Absolutely delicious meal, cute place, and great service. Couldn't ask for more.

    Impressed

We had fish that was so fresh it felt like we were eating at a small family restaurant on the coast of Italy. Sardines were excellent. Dessert was equally impressive. Mango cheesecake!!

    long way to go

I rarely feel compelled to comment, but really feel this place needs a good and honest review. Passed by the place and thought it looked adorable, so thought we would give it a try. Unfortunately, was met by a very pretentious front of the house. The place was full, so we agreed to sit at the bar. After picking up vino, at the equally pretentious and low quality suggested wine store, we ordered apps. Very strange presentation. Mussels were cleaned very well and would have been wonderful if there were any broth in the dish or grilled bread to dunk. When we asked for some extra broth, we were met with a very put out staff response and given the wrong broth! Weird. Anyway, the bar tender obviously hates his job and has no interest in customers while there is no liquor license. Wine glasses sat empty for an obnoxious amount of time. Entrees were met with a mixed response. I very much liked by Dorade, but the others were not impressed. The mac and cheese was a weird consistency that failed to melt. I think this place has a ton of potential. A few food tweaks and a new staff and it would be a great UWS addition.

    Overrated

Sure, the food is delicious, but considering the tiny portions, the obnoxious service, and the pretentiousness, I don't think Recipe is all that it's cracked up to be! I wonder how long they will be able to keep up their image without going bankrupt.

    well. good but...

I hate to spoil the party. But. Come on. It was our first visit and maybe the dinners are more plentiful than at lunch. They gotcha when you read Appetizer and Entree for $14. But the appetizers? You better not blink because it's gone with the 3rd spoonful. My "calamari/bean salad" was about 10 white beans out of a can and I swear not even 1/10th of a calamari. 4 tiny tiny little pieces of calamari and I mean tiny. My husband asked where's the soup? because it barely bothered the bowl. More like an amuse bouche he decided. The hamburger was big, & pretty good. The mac/cheese ok. But it's not the best deal at lunch after all. Esp if you are hungry. And everything's served in those hip square bowls including the cheeseburger. I'm afraid I've got much better deals (& food) elsewhere in the hood.
