Awesome Italian near the Theatre District

Came here for a pre-theatre dinner before seeing Book of Mormon and was totally impressed!! The Apple, Pear and Ricotta ravioli with prosciutto, pistaccio and gorgonzola sauce- honestly one of the most delicious things I've ever had IN MY LIFE. I even had to order another round because it was THAT GOOD!!! Tuna tartar is also pretty awesome... Great midtown spot- will definitely be back.

    Not recommended

Nothing makes me more angry than expensive unappetizing food. The menu descriptions make you think the meal will be delicious. But the salad was served with limp lettuce, the risotto perhaps 1 or 2 days old and don't even bother with the so-called filet mignon. In fact, just choose another restaurant.

Good food, but what a rip-off

We went to Resette on a Friday night. Arrived for 9:00 dinner and promptly seated. Ambience was aveage at best, and VERY noisy. We ordered 2 glasses of house wine for $10 each. The glass was not close to a full serving. We ordered Nonna's meatballs as an appetizer. What we got was Nonna's meatball; one meatball for $14. The meatball was absolutely one of the best I have ever tasted, but considering the $14 price and 1/4 of it missing so that it would sit on the plate (and it was meatball not meatballs), I felt ripped-off. The polenta that it came in was thin and bland. On to dinner. I ordered the ciopino, what the menu called "an Italian stew." Only problem is that ciopino was developed in San Francisco, not Italy. It is to Italy what chop suey is to China. Besides the fact that they got history wrong, it was an excellent dish with small pieces of salmon and swordfish surrounded by mussels, some calamari, and only 2 clams- $30. My wife had the risotto del giorno (risotto of the day.) Again, it was an excellent, tasty dish. My only problem again was that it was $24 for basically very fancy chicken and rice. So, more than $100 later (with tax and tip) I felt I could have done much better for my money in NYC. So, if price is NO concern, this is a great restaurant. But, if you are like 95% of the population, the price will leave a bad taste in your mouth. There are just too many restaurants in Resette's price range in New York that are far superior in quality, quantity, presentation, and service to make this a recommended restaurant. Considering the fancy prices, service was average at best. The waiter never offered any grated cheese or black pepper with our meal. On top of that, the water was never refilled and the basket of bread was disappointing. And, never in New York did I EVER eat in a restaurant where there was only 2 people at a table with the gratuity added to the check. I felt offended at this, and that alone would keep me from retuning to Resette.

    Best pre theatre

Best deal in Mid town. Had a great waiter (John) and terrific fresh made dinner. Fresh Cesear salad , terrific Chicken parma with pasta , dessert, coffee , and wine for $35.00. Amazing

    Pasta sauce tasted canned

This is quite possibly the most unappetizing 'italian' food we've ever eaten. 2 people, 1 drink each and $100 bill. Meat sauce was more unappetizing than a can of chef boyardee. Vodka sauce tasted like chef boyardee with velveta mixed in. Inedible. Do not eat here.

    Service issues

We went on a Sunday nite in the summer so understandably it was empty and more then enough wait staff to serve us. But they didn't. It took 20 minutes and a reminder to get my glass of wine. At 730 dinner they didn't have pizza (6 types on the menu) or the cheesecake. The new waitress didn't understand what the daily risotto was and it took 3 questions and sending her back twice to find out what the special was. Both our orders were wrong. We sent mine back so we ate at different times. We didnt realize my friends was wrong until he started so we gave up. We made the reservations on open table, got there, checked in and were there for 3 hours yet they canceled the reservation and "charged us" with a no show we just found out! And don't even think aboutgetting your water refilled!
