Great Food and that's the point!

Someone wrote a review here saying he didn't like the fact that the Waiters were not persian?? This is fantastic persian food. I don't remember tasting chicken this well done in any persian restaurant. And the lunch specials are a fantastic deal! $7 for two delicious strips of ground beef (kabob khoobideh, for the koskesh above who needs everything said in persian) Ravagh: Underground midtown commercial manhattan setting, still charming and quiet, with DELICIOUS CHEAP FOOD.

    Don't bother.

We went around Noruz, the Persian New Year, which nobody at the restaurant seemed to know. The staff was either Indian or German? Had no clue about Persian cuisine, asked us for the number of the dish rather than the name, and most of the time I couldn't understand what they were saying - nor could they understand what I was saying. Did not see a single Persian in there. Food was mediocre at best. The wait staff was one of the worst I've ever seen. Atmosphere was reasonable - a few modern paintings, but not Persian style, which would have been nice. It's really difficult to find a good Persian restaurant in NYC. I still have Colbeh as my number one.

    IT's a Must

The eggplant appetizer is delicious. Chicken with Pomegranate sauce is heavenly, eaten over the delicious RICE pilaf. It is far from simple food. It is a sophisticated culinary experience. The rose flavor ice-cream is a great finishing note..

    Excellent Kababs

Every so often I crave their kababs which are always so juicy and tender and their rice is fabulous. Service is usually good and the ambience is pretty ok but it's really the FOOD that brings me back!

great food makes up for ambience

Am suprised that this place is not Zagat rating considering the delicious food and satisfactory service. When looking for Persian food, this is a great pick - if you want bang for your buck. We loved the combination kebab platter, sambuseh and the faloodeh........great portions as well.....

    One of NYC's great values...

Truly excellent food, incredibly inexpensive. If you've never had Persian cuisine, it's sort of a hybrid of Indian and Middle Eastern, yet it is unique. Be sure to try the chicken in pomegranate paste and the cornish hen with sour cherry rice. (The sour cherry rice is so good it's worth the $2.00 extra to get it with your entree.) The kebabs are also very good, and the smoked eggplant and tomato spread is delicious. The portions are huge-- and they're all under $15.00, some only around $10.00! If you love ethnic ffo, Ravagh should be a MUST on your list. Friendly, efficient service, too.. and the place is comfortable inside, not a hole-in-the-wall.
