This upscale burger barn features some interesting burgers, or you can create your own for a truly unique treat. While overpriced as a whole, the fried pickles are definitely worth springing for as is the french fry basket. Note to the fans of fully cooked burgers- they don't call it Rare for nothin' ...make sure you specify you want your burger fully cooked, or bring your cattle prod along!

The burgers are very good, but this place is also great if you're looking for a few quick drinks after work. Grab seats at the bar and order the basket of fries with the dipping sauces. It's tremendous.

I went here based on Zagat's rating as one of the top burgers in New York City...but I didn't even want to finish mine. I ordered the all natural burger with cheddar cheese. The other person I was dining with got the same topped with the foie gras, which he said was good. The shoestring fries were what I mostly ate. The whole thing felt like they were trying to hard to be different but sometimes simple is better. The rooftop bar, on the other hand, is great if you can find a way to tune out the other people there. The vodka tonics are $12 but the view is amazing. I would go back to the bar.

Thoroughly average, if not below average. Burger and fries were tasteless. Service was ok, but way over priced for the food. If you are looking for a good burger you have better choices. In fact I have had better burgers at other places even. For burger lovers - take this one off of your list.

My girlfriend and i have been going to rare for a while now. though i try to vary what i order, she stays with the veggie burger (not bad, considering). invariably, we find ourselves going back to rare. the location, service, value, and food have always been worth the trip. however, the past several times we've gone it's been completely disappointing. our meals have seemed a shadow of their former selves. the presentation has slipped from making the burger a work of art to a piece of overcooked, underseasoned meat on a bun. the fries, which have always been a source of guilty pleasure, have come out less and less overflowing in their (sampling) basket. on top of which, instead of providing a ncie crunch the fires have been greasy and floppy. maybe the focus they've shifted to maintaining two locations, or introducing brunch, have been too much. just bring my burger back, please...

I was expecting a lot....perhaps too much. My boyfriend and I decided to have a down night so we opted for bugers...our opporunity to finally try the much hyped about Rare. I was dissapointed on all levels-- the service, which I can deal with...I really wasnt concerend about this although perhaps I should've been...our apps came with our meal and our burgers were over cooked. The food was not great ....dare I say even good. This place I can check off my list of "been there done that." Unto the next better burger.

I have eaten here a few times and considering you go there primarily for burgers I was dissappointed. Its pretty low tech cooking and considering the prices they charge I expect better. My burger was over cooked and dried out. I asked for medium and it wasnt even close to that. I should have sent it back but didnt. Quite frankly, I make better burgers at home. But they do serve Gus's pickles.
