Rare Bar & Grill

I met a pal here this week and just loved the place. The burger was great....kept me so full at lunchtime that I barely needed dinner. The service is not stellar, but it is friendly enough and this is a lovely space in which to catch up with a pal and have a drink and good pub chow. I considered it a find.

We stayed at the Shelburne which is the hotel this restaurant is in and since we read good reviews, we decided to go for dinner. We ordered burgers and fries and onion rings which were all good. These onion rings are the best! The burgers were very tasty and juicy. The only bad thing is the noise level. It was so loud, my friend and I could not hear ourselves talk. We ordered again from here the following night but took it to go!!

This place used to be great. It has been going steadily downhill for the past several years. The service was poor when I went there with several friends, we were initially ignored then rushed out. Worst money I ever spent on a burger - if I want to be treated this way, I'll go to a fast food chain

The steakhouse burgers make it all worthwhile. Just about the best onion rings I've ever had. For those types who order Italian food in an Irish pub or like to save $5, they have regular burgers too.

Had a great time with my family. We had three burgers and one vegi burger. All four of us overdosed on the F. F.. They are too good. Desert was oh my god great. Love the service and everyone was having a great time. Love it there.

We need more upscale bars in Murray Hill. Burgers are excellent, music and ambiance is really nice. Try the cole slaw, too.

When Rare first opened up, I thought it was one of the better burger joints in the City. Unfortunately, the consistency of the food preparation has slowly declined over the last two+ years. Recently, a couple of friends and I went on a Monday night. There was a fair crowd with a few empty seats. The three of us ordered burgers cooked medium and all three came out labeled medium. However, two of the burgers were medium rare and mine was medium well. My burger also lacked the bacon that I ordered and my friend's burger lacked the cheese that he ordered. When we told them of the oversight, the waiter brought out a cold slice of cheese for my friend to place on top of his burger. To make matters worse, it felt like we were constantly fending off the busboys who were trying to clear our plates from the table throughout the night despite the fact that there was still food on them. I hope Rare works out these problems but I’m not holding my breath.
